Ok think I need a top for aa 88 vert
Im getting a split by the back window and crack at the rear of the drivers side..
Ok I want people speaking from experience, where did you get your top and how much?
Is it possible for one that is mechanically inclined to install it easily? See my sig you can see what I have done thus far on another 7, plus I install car stereo professionally. Just unsure if it comes with instructions or if its one of those figure it out yourself things.
I hear its a bitch!
Id like to have one in Canvas to.. Anyone help me...

Opinions are like........
Just make sure that the top/trim shop has been in business a long time. If they can make custom tops, then the Rx shouldn't be an issue. Also, look for a place with at least one old timer working there. There is no substitution for experience, quality work, and you being happy.

I looked into buying a top and doing it myself after reading that it would take about 6 hours. I later found the instructions on how to do it in a step by step manner and determined that this was not a challenge I was up for. I called a couple of places locally and I am going to have it done. I was quoted about $1200 for a cloth top and new headliner. Just my .02

They have been in buisness for over 15 years, I have heard good things about them and heard bad things about them. Actually more bad than good. I guess if Im gonna pay that much I will make it very very clear If Im not happy I will be back and that Im a picky bastard! It works perfect now and it better work perfect when it comes back to me.
I want a canvas top, anyone else?

NOTE : If you are attempting to install this top and window assembly by yourself, Don't. This is a very difficult install and we suggest you take it to a professional.

What I did, worked out great!!
Had to do this for my Vert also. Here is what I recommend:
Go to your local Mazda dealership. Go the the parts counter. Find out where THEY send their cars for upholstery work. You'll win two ways.
1. An upholsterer that probably has experience replaceing the tops and
2. With a referal from the dealership, probably get your best price.
Good luck!

ridiculous
$1200-$1400 is ridiculous. The most expensive place in Atlanta that I got a quote from was $975, and that was with a Robbins top. Figure aboue $500-600 for the parts, $300 (6 hours at $50) for installation.... Most shops quoted pretty much this price....

OK Mike,
It can be done following the instructions from the FSM to the letter. Its easier and probably a lot less hassle to have someone else do it, that's obvious. There are a lot of steps involved and it is meticulous work. That said, you can cut your costs somewhat if the installation shop will play along because you'll be taking money out of their pocket my the mark up on the top which is substantial. You source the top yourself.
As a matter of fact, I've posted this deal before and got none, zero, zippo interest, but of course we're talking some serious money here!
I bought my canvas top for a little under $400, both pieces from a place that sells Crown tops. There are only a few top making places and all the rest of the internet/upholstery crowd buys and sells them. Crown, Robbins, Electro...something. Robbins does not sell cloth I believe, only vinyl. Oh, the German cars use Haartz tops, the ultimate.
The canvas I got was top of the line but it isn't the German Haartz. Still, it is a beautiful top. Finished off perfectly, its a Crown top. I got it through my small business. As you know, I sell the leather Shift/ebrake boots here, out of South Carolina.
Prices for installation were around $400. You have to arrange with the shop beforehand if they'll install your top as they aren't making money on it and there is an amazing amount of profit for these guys in these tops as you can see.
Anyway, that's my story and I'm sticking to it!
