OK so who REALLY knows??

OK so i have done searches and researched this for a long time the problem is I have gotten well 7 different answers from 7 different people.

I have an 86 Na that I stripped down to a shell....

I want to do a T2 Swap into it... I have the half shafts, lsd tranny, driveshaft all wiring including dash.

My REAL question is do i HAVE to swap out the LSD and half shafts?? my subframe is a bastard and I cant get it off to swap the LSD I bought so im gonna be lazy and ask IS it something i HAVE to do?

Also I was thinking about doing the 5 lug conversion and I tried two different pullers and neither were able to pop the hub off..... am I missing a couple bolts or something it seemed as though there was nothing left to remove just use the puller and slide it off....

Could someone help me out I actually have some days off of work and I would like to get SOMETHING /ANYTHING accomplished...

Please no opinions only respond if you have either done this before or are 100% positive thats how I got mixed info before...

Thanks

i'm not quite sure what your saying? what are you referring to when you say lsd? do you have the entire rear differential? or just the guts from inside it??

what you need is

t2 tranny
t2 driveshaft
t2 rear differential
t2 half shafts

if thats what you have then your good to go.

you don't remove the hubs with a puller, you unbolt them from the strut and then remove the tie-rod, and balljoint, you replace the entire assembly with a 5lug setup

You don't have to swap out the diff. You can keep the NA rear end, you just need to buy a T2 to NA driveshaft from mazdatrix. Don't expect the rear to hold up if you want to put some real power through it though. You will probably be fine if your keeping everything stockish. Swapping out the rear end is considered the proper way to do the swap though.

You do have to drop the subframe to get the diff out. The front mount goes in from the top. You may not need to take it all the way out but it does need to come down like 6" or so to clear the front mount.

oh for the rear end, ok you need to take off the rear axle nut, which you'll need new ones from the dealer cause they have a crush spot on them. then remove the 2 screws holding the rotor on, then the 3 small bolts holding the shielding on, then you just need to remove the large DTSS bolt thats on the bottom side of it, sorry thats all i can remember off the top of my head at the moment. it's pretty straight forward, just go buy a 5 lug conversion look at it see where the bolts go and take off the corresponding bolts on the car, it's really easy and only takes an afternoon. you'll need to purchase 2 new rear axle nuts and you'll need new soft brake lines to attach to the 5lug becuase the old soft lines are a different thread size
