ok a little help with the acv blockoff plate

ok here is my problem. i had my airpump and acv removed and i noticed a loud hissing under the hoodand i was looking and i felt alot of air leaking from the blockoff plate and there was a gasket in there so i put gasket sealant on the gasket and it still leaks but not as bad. but when i push on the plate so its not leaking the engine dies. so whats goin on here... whats wrong

how do you have the block off plate connected? did you remove the studs and use all bolts? I would... you could also try putting washers under the bolts (or nuts if you decide to keep em). itll help distribute the pressure and hold the plate down flush.

You don't need sealant. If you have a thick block-off plate (3mm minimum) that's completely flat, a gasket will work just fine. I cut my own from gasket paper.

what blockoff plate did you use? sounds as if its warped you cant just use any thin sheet metal and expect it to seal properly. make sure its perfectly flat first and if not buy one from RB or another good place. the one i had from RB was perfect and better than the one i made looks wise, its only around 20 bucks or so too

Also - If you're using sealant, a perimeter seal is not enough.
You have to seal the ACV holes in the intake from each other.

i dont rightly know if hard tach is a perimeter seal or what... all i know is that **** is really sticky and doesnt want to come off. also with the plate i beleive it is warped cause i can feel where the plate sticks out almost like it is bent or damaged. oh and also its from http://www.2751engineering.com/2751parts.html but i got a new one on the way from racing beat.

Seth from 2751engineering, sells quality block off plates that are definately thick enough so the plate was probably warped/damaged by your friend.

I have those 2751 block off plates, they're nice.

As for the studs, I used a pair of vice grips to get them out. You could also use the double nut method if you don't want to damage the threads.

1/8th is too thin in my opinion. There's no reason not to go to 1/4 (unless you have space issues....like a big turbo). That will NEVER warp.

But it sounds like all you need is to either use the proper gasket, or cover all the passages in sealant.

It matters. You can buy a square foot of gasket paper at the store for, what? A buck and a quarter? Just get a razor blade and lay the blockoff plate on it and scribe around it with the razor blade. Done.

I leave my check valve in place so I don't lose it. You have to drill a divot in the blockoff plate to accomodate the highest point on the checkvalve. I'm talking about a 1/4 inch drill bit and just drilling down enough to clear the center of the check valve.
