Ok I'm tired of this

Car wont start for **** when the engine is cold.
I have to turn it over sometimes a half a dozen times or more to get it running and it'll backfire until it is running steady. Once it's warmed up the engine runs fine. I've timed it once since I put the rebuild in. The engine has about 700 miles on it now. It's still making a rattling noise when I accelerate and it seems to lack power when this rattle comes on. Light throttle it responds fine but anything more and it rattles and feels like it's jerking maybe misfiring...dunno for sure.

I think if I solve the mystery of the rattle it'll solve the problem with the jerking and hesitation at more throttle. This post is probably going to be worthless as the last thread I posted with the vids of the car and the sound. But I could use some ideas for things to check. I plan to re-time it and see if I can track down the rattle with an engine stethescope as suggested by a friend(never used one, I think that's what they're called).

Also when timing it, why is it I couldn't see the red line but could easily time it on the yellow?

if you only have timming on one line. then you probbaly only have spark on one coil.... which would lead to harder starting, pinging, and lack of power. which is what you have

I have a similar problem with my GTU. It takes forEVER to start, even with a brand new starter. I have to let it warm up for five minutes, even in moderate temperatures like upper sixties...

I imagine it's timing or something....

Also, please don't mind the highjack.....

My GTU idles at about 300 smoothly... is that normal?

My SE does that too, only it will start fine with one try, but I can't let it idle or it'll die . But once it's warm (5mins) it's fine. I think my problem is with spark plugs thought. dunno bring it by mazda to have them look at it. 3 of the mechanices they have their own FCs and FDs do I'll have someone knownledgible look at it. Which is hard to come by.

It it like a chirping noise...really hard to describe. It just doesn't feel like it's running right. power is great at high rpms and all through the middle only at low throttle. But any more and the car acts retarded.

Sunday I'll be avalable and plan to work on it. Was gonna go to the base hobby shop if Dee or Emer could get me on. I'll give you a call for sure Sunday, I could use your help I'm sure. If I can't get on base we can work on it at my place, your place, or wherever.

I figured most of the bugs would work it's self out with milage but this problem with the hesitation at more than light throttle bothers me. Hopeing it's partially timing. Hoping we can find that rattle or chirping sound

Sounds like ignition to me... Possibly a bad coil on the leading side? If your getting a chirping noise when reving the engine, you may have the trailing plug wires switched.

Can you get a timing light signal from all 4 plug wires?

plug wires are good and in the right place, I've checked and double checked those. Coil could be bad...

You know, you might try to narrow down the problem this way.

Go out and crank her over for about 1-2 minutes. The purpose isn't to start it though.

Then wait about 30-45 minutes to pass.

Then try to start her up again.

If she starts up right away you might have the same problem I did with the primary fuel injectors.

thing is I never had this kind of problem with the old engine. I can't see how an engine swap would cause things to just go bad. So I'm 99% confident I have good working parts
