hmm, so lets say that i just so happen to have 6' of 4 gauge wire sitting right in front of me... could i use that... even though it is MORE than enough?

is there a such thing as 'overkill' when dealing with this?

I just delt with a problem like this for a little while, and my CAS (crank angle sensor) had been put in one tooth off. I also couldnt get my car to idle to check it with a light. I had to remove the 10mm bolt all together and turn it past adjustment to get in the right range. Knocking went away at once, and then I was able to set the idle correctly. It really sounds like ignition detionation, and it mostly happens under high load, not low load, hence 3rd, 4th , 5th. RETARD that sucker by a good amount, and adjust the throttle body stop screw to hold idle. GO out and run it, and see how it does. I bet all the knockig will be gone. BTW, if you have four marks on your pulley, most likely it will be the one farthest, or second from the farthest from the LEFT, not right.
