ok i know yal are doing 2 bust my ***** over this

i am about to buy a 2nd rx7 i think its a 88. the guy has told me the apex seals are good.what is the name of the rybber seal. they guy told me that, the rubber seal on the motor has dried up and is make the car smoke when it first starts and when u give it a good run if u know what i mean.

i would like 2 know if anyone could help me with the rubber seals name. also do u think the car is worth 1400. the body is clean. it has no rust but is a auto. everything about the car lookings good and drives great other than when it smokes.

so come on with this wtf are u talking about and ur a noob bs lol. i will get some pics of it and if u want i will send them. also if u want 2 see my 83 gsl thats cool 2 and if ur looking 4 a 3rd gen he has one 2 for sale its 10k with 50k on the motor

i think i found the ovr .http://www.atkinsrotary.com/store/cu...id=16578&cat=0

is that what i need. i would buy one but i dont have 10k for it. i would give my left nut for that car. i think he will do payments on it. i mean if u need 1st,2nd or some 3rd gen parts he has them all. he has like 50 1st gen 30 2nd gen and 2 3rd gen. the 1st and 2nd gens are part cars.

It's the oil control rings that are going. I have never heard of those "Viton Oil Ring Inserts"? Where do they go?

to replace the ones on the rotary i'm pretty sure you have to take the engine apart.

The actual oil control rings are made of metal, Viton is a treated rubber o-ring that is placed in the groove of the metal ring to provide a seal when the control ring is placed in the groove of the rotor. Not all brands of seals use Viton.

Yes sort of...Replacing the oil seals would mean basically tearing the motor apart and rebuilding it. To do it yourself you're talking $800-$1000 depending on what seals you replace and the condition of the block. To have someone else do it for you it could be as much as $1500.

So that means you'd buy the car for $1400, rebuild the motor for $1000, AND be left with a automatic! Put that together = $2400

Personally I'd pass but, in the end you would have a fresh motor and a manual trans swap isn't that hard to do....

I think you'd be better off getting one with a manual and of course a turbo if that's what you want. Sometimes you just gotta wait and wait to find what you want for a good price.

There are a couple factors you need to be more sure about.

1. How many miles are on this engine?
2. How trustworthy is the guy you are buying it from
3. How much is this all going to cost you. Would it be cheaper to just buy a WORKING RX-7 w/5-speed?

an 88 gtu motor is the same as the motor that is in your car now the only thing that you would gain is no smoke ( if gtu motor is "good" ) id personally wait and buy one with a manual trans and no smoke you can get a decent s4 for under 2 g's usually you just got to find one

I would pass on this... unless you are going to swap a 13BT w/manual tranny in it. It's up to you. If you like it, get it. I personally think manuals are funner to drive.

For 2400 bucks you can get a VERY decent NA in perfect running condition and probably a TII in "needs work, but running" condition.

If it were me, I wouldn't waste my money.

I got a pretty good condition 87 GXL for $700 running. I may have gotten lucky. I think for $2,400.00 you could possibly find a TII in "decent" condition.

I`m sure most of us would appreciate if you would take the time to capitalize and write words instead of the "IM shorthand" my 15 year old uses. It makes it easier to understand and you don`t come off sounding............ well you get the idea.

I also think you may be better off waiting until you find an FC that has a 5 speed and does not smoke. Just my opinion. My 86 runs fine including A/C and cruise control, only a very slight smoke (oil) first start of the day. She has 162,000 miles. I gave $400 when I bought her 12/04 probably just less than $2000 in it. Maybe a hair more if you count the Megasquirt EMS.
