No that's not normal.

Look at everything in front of the throttle body. You've got an intercooler, turbo and AFM. The only thing that uses oil is the turbo. You need a turbo rebuild.

A possible Purge Valve *problem*. The Purge Valve dumps the fumes (gas and oil fumes)......in the throttle body. See recent threads about the Purge Valve and the pictures that go with them.

could it be anything other than the purge control valve ??? i just pulled the tb's off my other 2 7's and it just so happens that both of them too had oil in them when i took the black plastic spacer off them.

My 87 Turbo II had a coat of black gunk build-up on the inside of the UIM.
I had no visible oil though.

ditto-- mine had *some* oil when i removed the spacer. I took it as being from the oil/crankcase purge. But... i know numerous times that the intake had been gunked. Once by me putting atf in the nearest vac tube (which was on the TB) and a second putting water down the same vac tube.

There was some oil behind the black spacer on my 1991 as well....

Not so uncommon as was suggested.
