oil psi guage doesnt work
ive tried a couple things so far. first thing i did was replaced the gauge. no luck. second thing i did was replaced the oil psi sending unit. still no luck. so at this point im kind of at a loss and dont know what to try next.

You can test that gauge and wiring by sticking a 100ohm resistor between the signal wire and chassis ground. That should peg the gauge. Similarly, you can momentarily ground the wire and see if the needle moves. Take care not to leave it connected as it will destroy the circuit. But to be clear it's just the oil pressure not working, correct?

right...oil psi. when the car is off the gauge lays down like the rest of them do, and when i start the car all my needles come up like normal but the oil psi one just keeps going and pegs out

It's supposed to be bolted to one of the slave cylinder bolts on the belllhousing but tends to migrate over the years.
The gauge will work fine without it but the wire (if broken) must not touch ground or the gauge will fry.
It's actually a condensor and looks like a single wire terminating in a little black cube with a bracket.

I've always wondered what exactly it was for. The circuit seems fine without it.
It is to damp fluctuations in the gauge response. The gauge will work fine without it, but the wire has a habit of grounding out which will cause the gauge to peg and then eventually fry.
