Question Oil leak question

I have an 88 SE non-turbo with an oil leak. I think it is the pan gasket. I can't see anything from the top of the engine compartment. The front plastic engine sheild is covered with oil, looking up from the bottom. Most of the oil is on the drivers side, if that matters.

My question is: If it is the pan gasket, can it be changed without lifting the engine? If not does anyone have any tips, tricks, things to do and/or things NOT to do? BTW I will need to do this on a weekend, as the car is used every weekday for work tansportation.

Please give me your thoughts and tips.

Thanks,

Jerry

As far as i know (i just dropped an engine in my 88 FC), i think you can get to the pan no problem... there might be plastic in the way, but im pretty sure its right there and easy to get to. i might be wrong though, take a look under her.

yes you can change the gasket. you'll need a new gasket, RTV a 2x4 and a 3 ton jack stand or a engine hoist. do a seach for oil pan and u'll find all u need to know.
