Oil Leak And I Am Freaking Out!

Guys, there is a oil leak on my car. Like I mean when I stop and leave it there parked for a little bit ( 1 hour-2 or overnight )then there is like a hand size puddle, I am always with oil quarts in my car now. But I mean what could it be? And how can I check it. Some guy told me it could be oil lines, where can I have it checked out? I live in LA, CA.

Ken.

PS, my budget is very low right now, and he is my daily driver. cant afford for my engine to give.

Jack your car, clean the engine with degreaser and then go under and spot for a leak. That simple. Whats hard is to find the leak depending on how dirty your engine is.

I had the same problem, it was an OMP line that had broken.

like F.C.3S said, clean it up then look around.

ok, Ima go do that after work, but the leak is not from the top, its from the bottom, like there is this sheild. and that is blocking me to see. ima try the degreaser thing. I noticed to, like there is this wistle sound when I drive sometimes. do you think its a hose somhow?

Oil metering pump.

You have 4 oil lines connected to it.

IF it's an OMP line, it's not really expensive to fix maybe 20-30 to make 4 new lines, but you're gonna have to remove both intake manifolds and a bunch of little stuff. it still could be a # of other things. you really should degrease and look around first

yes - it's 4 oil lines that run from the thingy i circled to your oil injectors. check that area first. the lines are cheap to replace - i used 3/16" hoses when i replaced mines. if not there, then check around the oil pan.

If you're mechanically inclined do it yourself and save yourself the trouble. It's not that hard. however the place where I'd take it because I trust them and are pretty good about cutting deal with me charge an hourly rate of around $67. if it's something small though they usually cut me some slack. But it's more important to take it to a mechanic you trust rather to a cheap one. If they happen to be both the same, then you're in business.

Did you find the leak? Just get a ratchet and 10mm socket, pull off the under tray and look. It's probably the oil lines that connect to the oil cooler. I had one start leaking pretty bad just recentley. I replaced them with SS lines and AN fittings, but to do it cheap just get some good used lines from the FS section.

I want to do it myself. I am at work , and so I cant really check right now. but yeah i will take out the tray and check. question, what is SS ? and AN? Found oil lines with the oil cooler which I dont need. but yeah let me check the leak where its from first. But anyways oil lines, they should be like 30 bucks right on the foruM? sorry for being so stupid. thanks in advance bro.

I found some oil lines for 40 bucks shipped, that price ok? and another thing, is it dangerous to drive my car right now? I dont think so right? reading the oil from the dip stick should still be acurate, like if there is a oil, it should still be ok to drive. I just gotta keep on putting oil right?

i had the same problem. It was my oil cooler line. Take the underbelly splash guard off, so u can see clearly. Find the big front mount oil cooler and the 2 lines connected to it. If it looks like it is wet or drenched in oil than, this could be your prob.

Mine leaked at the connection to the oil cooler. If the connections look clean and dry.(not your prob) also follow the lines back to where they meet with the block.

check your dipstick - if the oil is half full just add another quart of oil. if it's pretty full then you're ok. but also check it everyday to see how much oil you're losing.

Your car has a stock oil pressure gauge right? Use it. I believe oil pressure should not be below 15psi at idle. and above 60+psi above 3000 rpms.

here's a link to the lubrication system. it tells you where the oil travels. look at the diagram on page 3 and that will give you ideas on where to look for the oil leak

turbo and non-turbo are the same

no we weren't talking about the oil cooler lines, we're talking about the "oil metering pump" lines something completely different

i was saying that to the original poster, he started talking about SS and AN fittings so i think he got confused with the oil cooler lines.

I wouldn't trust the stock gauge at all unless the sending unit has been recently replaced.
My stock gauge reads just above 0 at idle and hits about 40-50psi above 3K RPM while the new SPI gauge reads @30 to 80psi under the same conditions.
I believe the new gauge/sending unit over the 16 year old set....
