oil cooler leak

ok so after many very scientific tests i discovered that my oil leak is coming from where the oil cooler line runs into the back of the block. now im pretty sure its just leaking from the bolt that holds it on. how do i go about stoppin this leak? is there like a gasket that i can buy that will make it stop. its kinda annoying to have to add oil more that i should have to

Copper crush washers(like regular washers only made of copper.) are used in between the Bolt and the Hose/hose and the engine.
that bolt is about 23mm or 15/16 of an inch.
you can try to wrench it down.(but Be careful,if that snaps you are toast.)

Call Malloy Mazda and speak to Ray Crow, he will get you exactly what you need for cheap, and OEM.

You can probably reuse the copper washers you have but you have to anneal them to get them soft first. We did this Thursday night.

When you crush the copper washers by tightening the bolt they seal but they get hard too. So you can't reuse them without softening them back up.

Take that banjo bolt out. You'll see it is hollow which is why Styx warned you about breaking it.

Clean the two copper washers. Then get some wet/dry sandpaper and spray some WD-40 or other lube on it. You can probably use water and soap too. Then on a flat surface like a glass table or granite countertop, sand both sides of the washers until they are pretty smooth and cooper colored again. Wash them to get them clean.

Now put on your mechanics gloves and get a wire clothes hanger. Put a couple of gallons of water in a bucket. Put a washer on the hook of the clothes hanger and using a torch heat it until the washer glows a dark red. Then dunk it in the water. Do the same for the second washer.

They'll be cool in 30 seconds or so (earlier but you dont want to risk a burn). Then I sand them real quick again so there are no contaminants to mess with my seal.

You should check the mating surfaces of the banjo bolt and the iron. Make sure they are nice and clean.

Works well and you dont have to make a trip to the store.

Note that you can anneal aluminum washers like this too but they wont glow dull red they'll just melt if you get em too hot. There is an aluminum washer on the bottom of the oil cooler.

Good luck.

You can also buy an assortment of crush washers at the local fastener store. It is very convenient to have a selection of crush washers around.

Go OEM. It will work right the first time, and it will last.
