So I spend two hours under my car today removing my starter. Finally, albeit against the Haynes directions, I have the starter removed but hanging by the power wire. This is a 12mm bolt that is strapped onto the two screws of the solenoid. I can turn this bolt for fifteen minutes and it won't move up or down the screw. It was loose to begin with, too. How on earth do you guys get a stripped bolt off a screw? I tried wedging it with a knife, fingering it, wrenches, ratches...
Yeah, but er, I gave up on it. I'm nineteen, getting old. My left arm can't take that kind of anglin' at that cold, cold temprature. (In the thirties today). Try it again tomorrow, though. Nice to know I'm doing what I can.
Or I'll just snip the O terminal from the power wire and crimp a new one on for the next starter.

Well, what you need to do is try to stick a flat head screw driver underneath the nut and use a wrench to turn the nut and pry it to a still useable thread so it will start backing off. I know because just a few hours ago I was taking my starter off and had almost the same problem, but I disconected the long bolt first and then the stud second. The starter then slipped off of the long bolt and hit me in the forehead.

I'm going to snip right above the electrical terminal and install a new terminal. Only problem here is that the teriminal looks like it's shaped to fit the starter so it can't move around.
Oh yeah, and should/can I ground the starter?
