oh boy - electrical problems again...tt/guage

Well at least my car runs good heh. Lets start with the turbo timer problem. I have the hks type 1 turbo timer. I have the harness that rx7store sells. I've had the tt in my car for about 9 months. About a month ago I took it out and redid a bunch of my wiring for my guages on the a pillar (greddy elec EGT/boost). Well I went to go put it back in a couple days ago. I was even motivated and soldered in the connection for the tach signal and the speed signal from the cruise control. Well the first day I finished I turned on the car and I had a tach reading. I turned the car off to have it countdown...but no countdown.

Now as some of you know the hks turbo timer has the e brake security feautre in it, it must be connected or it won't work. I checked my connection 10 times and it's solid. I even brought out the mutlimeter to check myself and it confirmed my splicing was fine. Well about a couple days after I did all the soldering I am looking thorugh my turbo timer and see what is working. The tach no longer works, the speed function never registered. The only thing that operates is the voltmeter. The turbo timer works fine when I turn the car on, but it doesn't countdown or do any other functions. Is the unit just fried??? I'm ok with electrical problems but I'm just stumped.

Next problem: It's not really serrrious but more annoying. When I turn on the car all my guages work except the greddy boost and oil pressure (deal with this in a second) what it does is just stays at 2 bar. That's where it goes when I turn the car off and that's how it is when I start it. The very first time I built any amount of positive boost pressure the needle shoots over to the correct amount of boost and reads boost and vacuum consistently for the entire duration of the trip. This started happening about a month ago when I got the car back from the transmision shop and they forgot to attach the main engine ground. Again I ask - did something just get fried inside of the guage itself??

Last question - yes it's been covered in searches but I'm still having a problem with the guage. I checked the mushroom looking object and the oil pressure sender unit looked fine. The wire wasn't loose and any grounds in the area were fine. I guess I can bust out the mutlimeter. Ah well this last one is the least troublesome of my other problems I've listed.

most turbo timers need engine speed (RPM) as well as a brake and ignition signal to work. If yours is not counting down I would say it is not seeing engine speed.

Do you have the tach input hooked up to the yellow/blue at the power steering CPU, or gauge cluster, or trailing coil???

as far as the boost gauge are you using the stock boost gauge wiring or it has its own sender. It sounds like the sender is incorrectly installed.. perhaps before the pellet for the stock boost sensor???

And as far as the oil pressure sender, if you ground the wire through a 4.7K resister what happens to the gauge??? It sounds like you have a bad sender or bad connection at the cluster.

For the past 6 months I've run the turbo timer countdown just fine with just the e-brake wire connected and everything else left alone

I have it hooked up to the yellow/blue wire just underneath the steering column, I believe it is the run that runs to the guage cluster.

it's the greddy 52mm elec. It has it's own sender, and it's worked fine for 6 months as well.

And as far as the oil pressure sender, if you ground the wire through a 4.7K resister what happens to the gauge??? It sounds like you have a bad sender or bad connection at the cluster.
I'll be trying that when I get home.

:sigh: I personally think that I fried the turbo timer and the guage somehow. Ah well the guage works fine just annoys me and I can pick up another turbo timer eventually.
