official weight of my TII

OK sat a driftsession one of the drag shops decided to bring down a set of scales. He was curious about some of the cars. Luckly there was only 1 fc, me.

My car is a 90 TII. no interior, AC. Really I cant think of that much I took out. Im running an E11 so I junked a ton of wire and sensors. Power doors, roof, windows, mirrors and the P/S are in. I have stock seats and sound deading tar still in also.

I dont remember exaclty. 2500 and some odd pounds with me in the car. Almost perfect 50/50 with a half tank of gas. Most of the hachis weighed as much as I did. All the 240s were 150-200 lbs heavier in the front than I am. So if anyone says a hachi or 240 is 50/50 they have the wrong info.

Cant argue with official scales.

stop bragging, maybe if you took out all that ugly sound deadening (sp?) then your car would be lighter, however, you still don't have that roll cage that you wanted to build, and there is the matter of the twins.

Howzit brah?, Sounds good to me!
I think the extra slight weight of the sound deading is well worth it...

How is the importy scene in Hawaii now? I use to live there in the Hawaii Kai area...Just down from Sandy beach! Loved it!

Wow. my '89 TII weighed in at 2760 lbs. with no a/c, p/s, smog equipment, rats nest, and full exhaust. What do you mean by no interior? Is that only a drivers seat and nothing else? I'm not trying to flame you, but I don't see how your car can weigh 25XX lbs. with you in it.

Damn! I wanted to go, but I had work. The job is more important because it pays for the stuff that goes on the car. Oh well, at least I'll be able to go for the event in August.

You hear about defpruns first gen? After he left our meet, he pulled into a weigh scale: 2183 lbs.

BTW - Terrh - Is that with or without you in the car?

If that's how much yours weighs, then I'd hate to think about how much mine weighs..

B2200

Curb weight on my truck is 2715 and thats with a full frame under it. I've removed atleast 200 lbs worth of weight and I'm getting ready to remove 20lbs in the flywheel and build a fiberglass front end because of the deer I hit. I want to take it up to the city land fill and have it weighed, their scale is accurate to around 1/2 lb. I would love to drop a rotary into it but don't have the cash.

Does removing the sound deadening material make the car that much louder?

Does it ruin any of the structural integrity of the car?

It's thick heavy felt. No it won't ruin structural integrity.

It makes for a smoother quieter ride, and dampening sound outside (and probably any sqeaking underneath or inside) the car.

Reminds me of "You Might not wanna move that.. That's a load bearing poster."

I dont think we are talking about the same sound deadening material then. I was referring to the hard crap that is on top of the bare metal under all the carpet and foam. Not sure of the name but I am talking about the stuff you have to remove with a chisel and hammer.

Sorry for any confusion.

No, It won't reduce integrity (enough to make any difference).

It's when you actually cut holes in the steel to lose weight is when integrity is greatly flawed.

Of course guys who do this usually have roll cages and are for drag/track only, so..

That would be sound deadening material... it's tar... you can scrape it off, it's just sheet metal underneath it... I did in my Prix, and I doubt it's much different in an FC (thought about it when I had the interior stripped for swaps)... It certainly can't do much if anything for structural integrity

Damn, How the hell are you that light?

I'm a 88 GTU and I am probably around 2600-2700.
I'm on 15's with single exhaust but steel hood.

I haven't taken the interior out but I can in about 1 hour(did on my 88 SE when I went to the track).

I heard S5 TII's are around 2900lbs.
Did you remove the dash and all carpeting?

I was there.&nbsp The scales was reading 250x to 251x.&nbsp Yes, I couldn't believe it myself.

The car is basically a gutted race car.&nbsp The only thing still intact inside is the dahboard "core" and the two seats.&nbsp Almost everything is ripped out.&nbsp The stock sound deadening (tar paper) is still in there - removing that would relieve about another 40 pounds.

slidingsky also gutted most of the wiring harnesses that go into the engine bay.&nbsp The main engine harness is removed, as the car is running a Haltech E11V1 tuned by me.&nbsp It's probably the only E11V1 rotary running well right now in the world.&nbsp The main power harness has been also gutted of extrenuous wires.&nbsp The aux harness that runs to the front of the car has also been gutted.&nbsp The car has no AC system (condensor core, AC compressor, hardlines, evaporator core, heater core removed), but it does run PS due to the fact it's a dedicated drift car.&nbsp Both the driver's and passenger's stock seats are still being used (with Zenki manual seat belts).&nbsp Replacing these with race seats could easily drop another 20 pounds +, as the stock seats are 30 pounds + each!&nbsp Other than that, there is no really extreme lightening done to the car - stock glass is all intact, no metal cutting (except for rear shock towers), and no fiberglass replacement panels.&nbsp The car does run an NA aluminum hood, but this should be comparable to a stock Turbo II aluminum hood (weight).&nbsp The car could easily creep into the 24xx pound range with the removal of the sound deadening and replacement of the stock seats.&nbsp Extreme weight lightening which would include going Lexan "glass" and fiberglass panels could drop the chassis way down to the 22xx range!

With a comprehensive roll cage installed soon, weight will climb back up to the 26xx pound range.

Seats

Jaz racing bucket seats are lite as hell, I think they weigh like 8 lbs each with the covers and their cheep compared to some of the ones I've seen on the net.
