odd vibration/sound

to start off, my buddy had an integra GSR with a bad front wheel bearing. the thing sounded like a low flying plane ALL the time. never squeaked though, which is how mine sounded 2 years ago when i replaced them with some used parts off this board. anyhoo, my car has sat for the last ~1.5 years, its now back on the road with some new suspension parts, and its making a sound that reminds me of his old GSR's wheel bearing problem.

with that in mind, let me try to describe it. it almost sounds like loud road noise coming from the new tires. im ready to throw that idea out the window though, as i just have this hunch its not the tires (yoko AVS ES100's). its almost like something rubbing constantly, and the pitch varies with your speed. its not that loud, thats why i thought it was road noise at first, but i dont want to wait and let it get worse, because it is annoying. i also thought it might have been something dealing with the brakes, as it was sitting for awhile, and would have though that if it was something like rust or something rubbing, it would have worked itself out by now.

im going to try and get a chance to take the wheels off this weekend to see if i can pinpoint the noise, but i cant even tell if its coming from the front or the back (i replaced the front hubs ~ 10-13k ago with, as i mentioned before, used parts with about 60-70k on them if i remember correctly).

anyways, what im looking for is ideas as to what to look for on my car? any way to test it, anything to look for?

Do you start hearing it at higher speeds, quiet at low speeds? Does that high speed that it is noticable at slowly get lower as time goes on? Does it go away or change a lot when you're turning? If so, I'd say wheel bearing. Those are exactly the symptoms of the worn/busted/whatever wheel bearing we had in our '99 VW Cabrio.

nope, turning doesnt seem to do anything. i'll pay closer attention to the noise as im turning, but as far as i remember nothing changes.

also nothing changes with pressure on the brakes, except slowing down, therefore making the pitch drop

Maybe you could have a defective tire, I know they are new but try rotating the tires and see if it moves or changes. Even good tires can have defects, but what you are describing is tire noise. Also look how old and worn your brakes are, could also be the culprit.

i was thinking if it was the brakes, the noise would change pitch with brake pressure.

i really hope its not a defective tire
