odd rumble? Newbie help!

odd rumble? Newbie help!
I recently just acquired a 1986 rx7 gts
well about too for a very low price....however
the alternater is gone.
but when i rev the car in neutral the motor gets quite rumbley like something aint sparkin. but the hole car shakes(not violently, but enough too be felt) and it is clearly coming from the motor...
what could it be
any help would be great!!!!

weeeeeeeeell, if you aren't getting enough voltage because the alternator isn't there, then it can shake a bit too. I highly doubt the clutch fan has gone eccentric and is vibrating the whole engine.
Once again. Check the motor mounts on your 22 year old car. And get an alternator!
