not yr usual sunroof question

for those who have disassembled their sunroofs:

is it a separate mechanism that lifts the back of the sunroof than that pulls it backwards once it is raised? i'm trying to free mine up (to hopefully avoid taking it all apart) according to the carb cleaner post, and i'm wondering if my problem is only part of the mechanism and not necessarily the cables that are infamous for corroding. if the good side is lifted up, i can barely pry the bad side up to level. is this a problem with that black hinge that i can see on the good side?

This could be an interesting post... I have the same "stuck sunroof" problem actually.

Have you tried the manual sunroof opening mechanism? If it won't open with that, then either the rails have locked up (disassemble the headliner and sunroof, regrease the rails) or replace corroded cables.

Oh yeah, which carb cleaner post were you talking about?

Mine used to suck and then I bought white lithium grease at autozone. 2.99 a can. It's messy but gt the back popped up and spray the **** outta the rails and anything on a hinge and run the roof through it a few times. It might free up after a while. If it doesn't... oh well. It might be worth the whole 3bucks to try.

the rear of one side won't lift up like it's supposed to before it slides back, so i'm wondering if whatever is keeping it from lifting up is a separate mechanism from whatever keeps it from sliding back...

kakkyo-the manual mechanism gets it to the same point as the automatic one before i risk stripping out both the crank and the turning-point thing.

would a busted cable make it impossible to pry up and move by hand? the working side will move asymetrically, so that it is up and back about an inch, but i cannot pry up the non-working side (past an inch or so up, and not back at all) or move it back, even with a considerable amount of force. would a busted cable somehow provide that much resistance, both vertically and back and forth?
