not your typical antenna

hey dudes, duders and el duderinos.. my power antenna is a real nuisance. The motor works (i hear it) but the antenna wont drop down when i turn off the cd player. I know how to change the antenna (thanks rx-7 forum!) but i cant get the freakin antenna itself to drop into the housing - me and two other competent people could not physically push the darn thing back down. I lubed it up with gear oil and stuff too but that didn't change a thing. i really want the antenna to drop down so i can fix the problem and put my fancy car cover on! if worse comes to worst.. should i just saw it off!?

sounds like the nylon rod inside the antenna is broken or damaged. You will probably need to replace the mast.

About $20-$25 most stereo shops (ask for a Harada Mast ) or at Mazdatrix for an OEM one.

I dunno, I disconnected the entire all together than shaved it off (yet tobe painted) and have relied on the windshield antenna. It doesn't work quite as well, but in the city and a few miles out recieves fine reception. It won't pick up the city's radio stations that are 35 miles away like it used too though. I was impressed, but I have since taken out the radio and wires anyway pending rewiring (pending for a few months now...)
