auto rx-7 tranny's are crap, they can't handle any power . . they love to crap out on you and are complicated as ****, just drop some cash for a nice manual transmission and clutch cylinder, pedal etc. you can get stuff cheap from junk yards, the manual transmissions are great, even the n/a ones, i have a manual trans in my '86 n/a , i love it, i dont think an rx7 would be much fun to drive with an auto . . . .

its not all that fun really, but its not bad. but its what i have to work with. as do many others. if your going to do a conversion do it right so that you and the person that converted it are the only people that know it was ever an auto.

I have a 90 auto and it's not that bad unless you are taking off from a stop and some punk is next to you in a cavalier....

but I now have a 90 w/5spd and the auto is going bye bye as soon as I get her put back together. had to swap all the performance stuf off the auto and put it on the manual car.

auto not that bad but beware you will end up buying a new tranny sooner or later. better take care of the one in your car or it will die. I am on my second one and I have owned the car less than a year. 1st one had about 98K. this one has less than 20K but I amselling the car now.

I had an AT, and it eventually crapped out on me. As it was said earlier, you don't get much pep out of an auto untill the secondaries kick in at around 4k. If it's extra gutless, don't forget to check for power robbing problems, such as clogged fuel injectors and filter, or vacuum leaks. There's a vacuum hose that goes from the back of the UIM to the tranny, and it can cause problems with power and shifting.

my 91 auto vert sucks off the line, but at speed it pulls better than i thought it would. i dont mind the auto since i've been doing alot of freeway driving. my 5speed car would hand the auto its *** in every way shape or form but i dont think the car is as bad as what i see people post. it goes pretty well in 2nd and 3rd gear when im winding it out. i got it up to 110 a few days ago and it didnt seem like it was all that slower than my stock coupe on a roll.

There are some things you should test.

If the aux ports are stuck open you will loose low end torque.
If they are stuck shut, you will loose high end power.

If you have an S5, the VDI may not be working.

Also check the secondary double throttle to see if it's working.

That's the secondary set of valves in the TB. The pair on top closest to the opening. They're operated by the vacuum can thingy connected to it. Often, the actuator stops working, providing yet another place for vaccum to leak, as well as intake blockage.

Okay thanks for more reference on that... looks like I have alot more reading to do so i can try and find out what all this stuff is. The vaccuum line that goes from the UIM to the tranny, what side does it connect to on the tranny... driver or passenger, couldn't really see much from the repair manual so i just checked all the lines back there, but I want to be more thorough tomarrow.

it's on the driver's side, close to the top I believe. If you don't have them yet, download the Factory Service Manuals from www.iluvmyrx7.com. They're an invaluable set of tools.
