no idle warm, very hard start warm

88 rx7 turbo, doesn't like to idle when warm. Also when warm doesn't like to start either seems as though it is flooded. If it sits overnight the car starts fine. Someone please lead me in the right direction of what to check.

Look at the "water thermosensor". On my 88, the wires in the connector to the coolant sensor were pulled out. So even though the plug was connected to the sensor, the wires didn't make contact. Made for very hard (and I mean, VERY hard) starting. Easy check is to look in the FSM under fuel/emissions and see the ecu pinout diagram. Find out which wire going to the ecu is for the thermosensor, and check its voltage. If it's 5.0v or 0.00v, then you have an issue.

Other things to check are spark plug condition, and there's also a hot start assist solenoid that cuts off vacuum going to the FPR for 90 sec on a hot start. Check compression too, it could be low and causing a hard hot start/flooding condition.

plugs were new 6 months ago, where is this hot start assist solenoid? and how would I check it? I need to invest in a compression tester and check that also.

Here's a link to the section you'll need. It's called the pressure regulator control solenoid valve. Page 8 (or 4b-7)

http://www.rotaryheads.com/PDF/2nd_g...tems_turbo.pdf

The solenoid is orange. If the car is hot, turn it off and pop the orange connector on the driver's side loose. Hook up a multimeter to it. Turn the car on, check voltage. Start car, check voltage. Now, you can get some jumper wires and put +12v to the solenoid and see if you can feel it click, then blow air through it.

Here are all the sections.

But more importantly, I think you should check the thermosensor first.
