Question No Fuel - Help

Just finished swapping in shortblock into 88 vert. I have everything (thats left, no emissions) plugged in, and I have verified spark. I know the fuel pump is working and I have fuel pressure in the rails. However, I'm getting nothing on start up. Not even any pops. As such, I think I don't have any injector function. Per FSM, I have checked EGI fuse, and I can hear the main relay clicking.

Any advice or ideas?

Thanks,
-Jayson

Buy a can of starter fluid and spray for two seconds into the air filter or the snorkel before it. Try starting the car. If it goes varoom.....your on to something when you suggest a fuel problem.

Got the fuel lines crossed on the left side of the engine????? Take off what you think the return hose is. Put it in a bottle. Jumper the fuel check connector and turn the key to ON for a couple of seconds. Did fuel come from the direction of the engine towards the fuel tank. Hmm. I wrote that weird. Put a hose on the return line that is attached to the engine and put that in a bottle. Get my drift. Fuel from the engine side means its connected up right. Ah heck. The line from the fuel filter is the feed line.It goes to the fwd pipe on the engine is its a USA version. Japs are *** backwards.

Yea, fuel lines are correct. Haven't got any starting fluid but I'm sure that would result in some popping/running. Still thinking its an EGI thing...but I don't know what.

Or pull the lower plugs out. Spin the engine over with the starter. If the injectors are firing....then you'll see a big spray of fine fuel mist exit the plug holes. Some caution should be taken because the spark plugs will be also firing when this is done.

Checked with multimeter, injectors are not firing...but I don't know why. Very frustrating.

I'm thinking, I'm thinking. Just some basic that I know you know but It would not hurt to write: The injectors get 12v from the 40a fuse in the engine bay which passes thru the MAIN RELAY to feed the injectors. It's there as long as the key is on.

The injectors work by the ECU pulsing a ground to the injectors. The ECU knows when to inject by the signal from the CAS.

You have spark which means the CAS is working. So therefore the injectors should be pulsing (my therefore, does not make it so).

You might check the ECU at the small plug and see if the pins 3J and 3I have 12v. Pins 3E, 3F, 3H, and 3J are the injector plugs any you'll see 12v there also.

OH. I HAVE A THOUGHT! really. There was a fellow on this site that changed the engine out and had your same problem. He forgot to attach the ECU grounds. They are on a ring connector on the top of the rear rotor housing. Just a couple of black wires on a ring that is secured with a bolt. Throttle body has to be removed to see it. No ground for the ECU means no pulsed ground to the injectors. I've a couple of other ideas if that does not pan out.

The ECU grounds come out of the harness branch that goes tot eh primary injectors. A couple of black wires on a ring connector that gets bolted to the rear houlsing. They don't have much to do with the ground that runs from the ground on the firewall. Maybe I'm misunderstanding. You can only seee the EECU grounds if the throttle body is removed out of the way. Nothing to do with that ground on the firewall.

Yeah, I think the ground that he (cafcwest) is talking about is the ground from the tranny to the firewall. I know of the ground wire you (HAILERS) are talking about. It’s almost impossible to see it with the intake installed. Doesn’t it come out the wiring harness on the driver’s side near the oil filler tube?

On a 86-88 that ground is a part of the harness on the passengers side of the engine. It routes from the ECU to the right side of the engine bay....crosses over to the front of the engine and goes to the drivers side of the engine .....across the top towards the right side of the engine where it branches to the injectors, water termo sensor and the ground ring for the ECU. I know not about series five.
