No flames? what a rip off lol

So I have read so many times that all it takes for the 7 to make flames out the exhaust is no cat's. Well my S5 turbo is straight piped to the stock y pipe and mufflers and it doesn't do flames. It's not a big deal to me but I hate tail gater's and it just seems like a good way to get them off my ***. That and the look on people faces when you pop a flame just makes me laugh inside. The cheap narrow band air fuel meter I have says its running rich all the time but that could just be the inaccurate reading. Just wondering if I am missing something here or what? It's also got a Redom chip in the ecu that I assume is mainly to remove fuel cut the site also says rev limiter but it was translated from Japanese and I couldn't understand most of what it was trying to say lol. It has only backfired a handful of times decelerating down hill. Any idea why it wont or did I miss something about turbo's doing it?

LoL, when someone pisses me off while riding my ***, I rev up to 7k a few times and it pops and a LARGE cloud of smoke comes out of my exhaust. I like that much better then flames. And no, I dont have a blown coolant seal(yet) it's just the oil I premix. :P

Hm, you sure thats normal?
I dont premix (omp) and it does that when i let off the throttle at high rpm.
I was hoping removing the OMP would STOP that LOL

You could try getting a cat back with a single outlet and strait through design.

when i was running my apexi gt spec and my bonez straight, i was lighting up the freeway all the damned time. loved it.
and yes, shooting huge ***** of thick *** smoke is very common when bouncing around the 7500-9000 range.

Oh man, another flame post. If you buy my turbo, you might be able to get a nice cloud of smoke to scare him off.

Seriously, you need to get yoru exhaust hot! This does not mean cruis ing the freeway 90mph. It means hard drivng with load! Do a few drag passes, or go uphill, make your manifold glow.

There are plenty of flame threads, do a search. reving at people on the streets is asking for the cops to give u a nice big ticket. I dont know about Indiana, but no catylitic converter in CA will cost you over 1000 bucks, if they dont take your car away

Get better flowing headers, and a straight through single exhaust (no cat) with only a resonator or 2... Also, try running a higher octane... It'd be funny trying to pop flames running 87 pump gas... lol...

Not throwing flames means that your car is running better then most. Why try to break it?

If your narrowband is running rich all the time, then replace the O2 sensor and see if it starts reading.

I hear that dousing your car with gasoline and throwing a match on it will achieve a mushroom cloud effect that can be seen for miles... please post youtube video

In Initial D the movie the guy gets 350 hp from shooting flames. lol

What might work better is a button your press and shoots out an oil slick so the guys behind cause a major accident. Maybe dayton wheels with sharpened edges to pop peoples tires on the side. pop up machine gun headlights! A super wing that helps u fly.

I was running catless with premix and I would not put out large clouds of smoke. You're doing it wrong.

only car I had that would shoot flames was my old supra, 7m-gte motor with a t06 and 3 inch open pipes straight through to the back. If I got the car really warm where the turbo would start heating up a lot, it would shoot 5+ feet from 5k to redline every time. Absolutely wonderfully full of pure testosterone!!!

I guess if you are short on testosterone, shooting flames might help.

Pretty sure theres an anti-afterburn valve to decrease backfiring on deceleration. mine is removed and blocked off from previous owner. The only time flames can be seen coming out of my car is in the very tip top of second gear when I let off the throttle for a turn or something after wot. A little pop, and a tiny white flash can be seen in the exhaust tips. I wish it wouldn't, I'm sure it's not good. But thats how I set my car on fire.

Shooting flames was cool for a while when I had the stock ECU and an open atmosphere BOV, but it would do it when I didn't want it to. It got annoying. When I went standalone and tuned it, it pretty much stopped shooting flames or even backfiring, despite way bigger fuel injectors, turbo, etc. And octane has nothing to do with it... I am running straight 100.

i'm pretty sure that shooting flames is not a good thing.I am running a big turbo through a single 3" straight pipe,no cats ,silencers or anything obstructing exhaust flow(thank god i dont live in cali!),and even if i try i cannot get flames, thanx to a properly tuned haltech. If you really wanna scare people, run a fuel line to an injector in your exhaust about a foot back from the exit and wire it to a switch.......

The easiest way to get Flames without ruining something on your car is to buy a kit

You couldn't pay me to install a flame kit.... I just thought it was something kinda normal on these since so many will do it. Since its not I'm not gonna try.

I wouldnt say blown coolant seals, but i would say Oil control rings are not seated right or are in need of replacing. Same issue I am having. While it is enjoyable to have a james bond type oil smoke cloud on demand. It is not simply your premix. Mine is also running rich so if I hold it in 4th gear at about 4.5 -5 k i can get her to backfire a bit and shoot a decent flame out of both pipes. But I run 93. premix, hollowed out cats, and again it is running really rich and my timing is not set 100% So while it is fun at times and really freaks people out driving by the ghetto, I can't wait to have it fixed. I have an NA and i am getting around 200 - 250 miles to a tank.

spark plug FTW! sike. when mine was n/a mine would shoot flames on 87octane if i reved to 8k and let off as soon as it hit it, shooting like 2 foot flames, but now that im tII it runs richer and only shoots big flames when im starting it up in the morning (no o2), down hills itll pop some 6 inch flames here and there. i love it

Flames are really fun when you first get an rx7, but you will get over it. Flames are cooler when unintentional, if something is forced its not as cool. Even some well running rx7's will do it occasionally. I consider my car to run well and it will pop a flame once and awhile if I let off after a full pull.

So basically, don't force it. Some day you will hammer by someone and than pop a big flame, completly unintended and then that will be a good day.

low octane has a lower flash point so its more prone to ignition than high octane.
