Nitrous.............friend Or Foe!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have a 88 GXL and the engine has 12,000miles on it. I have an aggressive streetport, lightweight rotors, T2 housings, ported Intake Manifold and Ported TB, RB Exhaust and T2 Fuel Pump. I just bought a ZEX WET KIT w/ 55, 75, and 100hp Jets. I have heard all kinds of things about Nitrous and I am so confused. I am coming to u guys for the real deal on Nitrous. First off I hear that it is not good and an easy way to blow a rotary engine. I mean its not good if the kit is installed properly or if u r using one of those UNSAFE dry kits. Kits where the Nitrous stays on and is engaged at WOT produce alot of wear on the engine. But I have heard a wet kit that is installed properly on an engine like mine will be just fine. I have heard never to hold the nitrous for more than 15sec at one time and dont let it redline in gears. I am not going to be lauching with the Nitrous engaged, I already know about the strength of the N/A tranny. I have heard that quite a few people have used the 75hp shot and had no problems at all. The wet kit will ensure a good mix of fuel and air so no detonation right? I mean I just want to know really is Nitrous a good mod or not? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

TO SEVENDREAMZ: nitrous is the 3rd form of forced induction. your have superchargers, turbochargers and nitrous oxide. all your basically doing is forcing air into the engine. the more air, more power. to do it safely, you need to add the right amount of fuel, just like in the other 2 forms of forced induction. failure to do so can reslut in the loss of potential power and or detonation.
the advantage of nitrous is the fact you can keep your car very streetable and yet have potentially massive amounts of horsepower at hand when you need it. unlike S/C's and Turbos, the stress on the engine is present as long as your are running. more so for S/C's because even at idle, superchargers constantly feed power to the engine, whereas Turbos only activate when exhaust gas spools the turbine. that being said, the engine stress created by nitrous is ONLY the added HP it gives you, just like a turbo and s/c does.............only not all the time.
just remember, there will always be people who will laugh at you, mock you and think you're cheating by using nitrous. they're just so dumb to know that turbos and superchargers are other forms of "cheating" as well needing a foreign component to create more power rather than modifying the existing engine to achieve the same thing.
