Thumbs up The newest custom exhaust!

Well, I was working on my cars driveshaft, when I hit the racingbeat presilencer on my car, and noticed that it moved, and the cat back didn't! So with a little jiggling, I found that the Y-pipe had broken clean in two! (explaining the huge exhaust leak my car has had...)

And so we once again, built an exhaust for another RX-7, but for a change, this one acctually sounds good! And gives good power!

We just built from the racingbeat presilencer back, and used 2" pipe, split it (just like stock...). And I used 2 baffled glass packs

I figured they would sound like ****... But they were only $10 bucks each! So what the hell, worth a try. And they came out with a nice mellow tone, not horribly loud, but it will get attention! And overall, must be the best exhaust that I think I (Note the "I") have heard so far.

I remember someone talking about putting these on there car, and I thought it would sound like ****, and I still think the straight threw one's would, but hte baffled glass-packs I got sound good! Although around 3500 RPM's when the 5th/6th ports open, it gets this tone, that almost makes you go cross eyed! Then it clears back up again....

Anyways, anyone else got any interesting mufflers, that seem like a bad idea, and sound good?

I don't know the brand... I'm sure they are just no name mufflers. I acctually think they were NOS glasspacks, or something? But pretty much all baffled glasspacks will have the same effect.

And yeah, my brother built a Y pipe.

And before this, it had a racing beat streetable header, into a presilencer with a stock cat-back, but the cat-back was busted in half. So it sounded like complete ****!

And the cops must not care about me or something, because I drove around with pretty much nothing but a pre-silencer for like 2 months. And I even got pulled over once, and they never said anything about it. Strange....

That won't last long. In a few months all of that fibreglass will be gone, so it's lucky they were cheap. You should only ever use steel-packed mufflers behind a rotary.

Yeah, rotaries will melt the fiberglass out due to the extreme heat they produce. Itll be interesting to hear what they sound like then.

call us back in two months and give us a status report. Curious to know how long it would take.

One more time...... There baffled glasspacks.

Do you intentionally spell my name wrong? It right there on the screen! NO E!

And I might.... If I do, I'll pull it, and we'll make another one. It only cost me $40 bucks to built the cat-back.

Cory - You seem to missing the key word everyone is trying to get you to notice. Skip the word "baffle" and focus on the word "glass" as in fiberglass packed.

Anyway, I've got one of the baffled glasspacks on my car where the presilencer would normally go. Its very constrictive but I had to do something as it was way to loud. I'm sure its all melted by now but with the baffles still there it works like a flowmaster type muffler. I had it put on my car about 5 years ago and had to park the car soon after that. I finally got around to putting a rebuilt motor back in it and the first thing that will come off the car when I'm thru breaking the motor in will be that baffle thing.

Cory, the reason you've never been pulled for noise is that cops in SC don't give a **** about noise. In a lot of other states it's a big problem for people with loud cars, California comes to mind.

My 89 gtu came with a set o glass packs frankenstiened onto the rear of the y pipe... but ya know what... I liked the way they sounded!!! I replaced them twice and finally bought racingbeat cans, but, for the money, the packs weren't all that bad!!

Do yourself a favor and get different mufflers...better to spend the money to get it done right rather than replacing stuff every few months. Racing beat mufflers sound fantastic, Apexi N1's are plentiful and aggressive.

My old NA's cheapo exhaust had glass packed bombs at the tail.
The turbo pac silencers in the middle softened the sharp pulses & the fiberglass was back where the exhuast was cooler.
The sound file link in my sig was recorded about 6 months after I put them on.

I've seen the same setup, it sounds great for the first week or two, then they melt and die. (Made it less than two weeks before they were completely shot)

I always smell a burning scent. Either it is the fiberglass your talking about, or the paint on the mufflers. (smells like burning paint to me.)

Could just change the muffler bearings in a bit to keep the noise down?

JK, glass packs will get progressively louder...so what out.

Haha..yea cops in SC dont care about exhausts, not in the upstate anyways. I've been running open header on my SE-R since last september, daily driven. My buddy, and the reason I read this board has been running an open downpipe with his Turbo II for about 2 months. Neither of us have had a cop even flinch at our cars. BTW he has a turbo-back on the way, the exhaust was so beat up and rust and the tips were falling off so we ganked it all off (the car sat for 4 years before he bought it, started right up, runs great)
