A newb's guide to grounding the ECU and others.

(a note: it's kinda lengthy, i wrote it for people who are bigger newbs than me)
Well having just done it, and having had to look at numerous different writeups, I thought I'd compile everything I've learned about grounding this week into a simple write up. Re-grounding is one of the best things you can do to an RX-7. Especially because its an easy fix for most 3800 hesitation problems(it worked for me) and numerous other problems. First off, if you're reading this for help, go read this http://www.aaroncake.net/rx-7/grounding.htm. Thanks to aaron for being really smart, and also for writing that up lol. That pretty much covers all the main grounds that need to be done. There's one under the VIN in the bay that attaches to the top of the tranny, a bolt at the bottom of the driver shock tower, and a plug underneith the trailing coil that are all main grounds, as well as numerous other ones. There is also the ECU. This ground is annoying. It's located right underneith the upper intake manifold, as can be seen by the pictures on aaron's site. I decided that instead of taking the manifold off, I was just gonna add another ground from the harness. It was substantially easier than taking off the manifold, imo.

here's a list of what you need: Soldering Iron, rosin-core solder, 10-14gauge wire(u choose), a ring connector for your wire gauge, wire strippers/crimpers, heat shrink and a lighter/something hot, dielectric grease if you can find it(i couldn't), electrical tape.

here's how to add a ground to the ECU:
(d/c the negative batt terminal before all of this)
1. Take off the passenger trim panel(6screws) and the kick panel(pulls out).
2. Grab a 14mm socket w/extension and take out the seat(4bolts)
3. Pull back the carpet where it's tucked underneith everything
4. Take out the ECU cover panel out(10mm-4 knuts?)
5. Follow the harness from the smallest plug on the ECU up. The harness starts black, then there's a white strip on it, and then aprox. 6'' from this, you'll find the connection you need.
6.Cut open the harness(gently) and try not to cut anything inside. When it's open, check to make sure you didn't cut or expose any wires. If you did, make sure to reseal the wire.
7. You are looking for a blue connection with 2 wires(i think) going in and 2 wires coming out. It's easy to find.
8. Once you've found the connection, and you'll find something that looks like this(I know you're jealous of my paint skillzzz lol)

anyway, you're going to want to make you're connection on the brass connector.
9. Strip one end of your wire, and attach it to this connector, and then make sure it's secure and solder it down. I used tinfoil under the wires to keep the rest of the harness safe. I couldn't fit any heatshrink around this, so I just used a liberal amount of electrical tape and made sure it was secure. I also made a slit in the original blue tape and wapped this around it after, too. Doesn't really do anything, just makes it easier to see.
10. Cut you're wire and with enough room to reach the location where you are going to ground. I chose one of two bolts that were holding a small silver plate to the right side of the chasis, behind the kick panel. Not sure what this is, but it was a good location for a ground.
11. Strip the other end of your wire, insert some heatshrink on the wire and crimp your loop connector on it. Heat the wrap over the connector/wire and then thread the bolt through through the connector, and then reconnect the bolt. Voila.

there are also 2 ground wires on the medium ECU plug. They are labled in my drawng. They should both be black. Same procedure as above, just cut them, solder them together, and to a 3rd ground wire, insulate it all, and then ground with a connector. Anyway, this is just what I did and it worked for me. Maybe you've done something different, but I thought I'd share this for people who are really really new to this.
