Universal exhaust? Like a muffler? I think you need to add alot more details in what you just wrote.
Read it outloud to yourself and tell me if you could answer that question if asked.

please reword your question into a complete sentance with detail of exactly what your tring to do.
it sounds like you are tring to use some aftermarket muffler but instead of welding it on you are planning on cutting the old one off and attaching this one with some type of cheap "tin can with out ends" style metal conector??
i dont know how well something like that would work it would create exhaust leaks and probably burn threw and fall off...

here is wat iam thinking.......i dont know where u guy get ur exhuast..but i did some research ..and i cant find the muffler i like....racing beat muffler dont look nice......however...i like the look and sound of the universal muffler.....i like the 4 inch outlet tip one.....so my plan is to custum a y pipe.....intermedia pipe ....and a rear section......i want to replace the whole thing.....alll pipe with 3 inch diameter...the problem is that i dont know how you can turn a universal muffler into a rear section....beside welding...does anybody know how....?......

just buy a 3" system, corksport sells one. they got ones on ebay also....
heres what u want to get at least get an Racing beat header, then u can do straight 3" after that, or 2.5" all the way back, its gonna be LOUD just to warn you...
theres a cork sport big muffler style system, they sell a duel one lke that on ebay also.

First off. CORKSPORT AND SSAC aren't anything close to the same. Corksport claims that SSAC stole on their exhausts and had it copied. That's the only simularity. Quit ******* posting misinformation.
Second off. Kahren runs a 3" exhaust on his stockported NA that makes roughly 180HP. What does that tell you?
Thirdly. drakeco, since this IS your first exhaust I say keep it simple. If you really want to do it yourself:
2.5" piping off the manifold, use a highflo cat or a inline muffler of sorts such as Borla or the Dynomax bullets. keep in mind that 99% of inline mufflers WILL burn out due to the rotaries heat.
For the rear section I suggest having a shop make you a y-pipe and having the muffler welded on, there really isn't any other option unless you buy a premade system.
__
Now if want a very cheap/inexpensive exhaust:
Before the main cat position:
Racing Beat Cat-replacement with a presilencer = $305.00
Bonez Superflo system = $315.00
Bonez 2.5" race pipe = $160.00
Cat-Back
Corksport Cat-back: $289.00
SSAC Cat-back: $140-200ish
For 600 you have a full and nice exhaust, except for that it will be loud. So make sure you buy the Corksports muffler presilencer.

i never posted they are the same.
i ment that cork sport and ssac both sell 3" systems.
lol ok, and your saying that SSAC "copied" CS's exhaust, if its a "copy" then how can they not close to the same thing?? haha

They are nearly exactly alike. You implied that they are the same when you said Corksport sells them on eBay (which they do not) and they sell a dual exhaust on eBay (which they do not).

I think he wants to take the flexible exhaust piping you can buy from autozone or meijer and connect it to his FCs header. AutoZone sells a flange that may fit the headerthat turns into a regular 2.5" pipe, I would couple the flange to a piece of the flex pipe and run it a a cheapo muffler about where the cat would be, then I would run more flex pipe from the back of that to where the stock y pipe would be, AutoZone I know sells a Y pipe, use two sets of flex pipe coming from the Y pipe to the mufflers. Then they have this sort of stuff called pipe hangers, wow, how generic, it's a metal strap with holes in it. You wrap it around the pipe and put a screw and nut in one of the holes to secure it. Then you can either find some way to connect the other end of the strap the where the old exhaust hangers were, or you can lift up your carpet and drill holes in the floorboard. This is what i'm planning on doing, My dad did it to his old *** 78' FireBird when the exhaust rusted out of it. It's cheap, however from what I understand the heat from rotary engines will kill these cheap mufflers quickly. The concept of the third muffler where the cat was is it is used as a pre silencer since the exhaust is so loud. It's not really necessry though.
I don't remember if you said you have an S4 or S5, but if it's an S4 be sure to wire your aux ports open or use the airpump to open them etc. You'll also need alot of clamps and couplers for this, i'm saying, 8 couplers, meaning 16 clamps, at least with the dual /presilencer option, if you use on muffler and no cheapo presilencer, 2 - 3 couplers. Whih yould be the flange adapter running straight to the muffler, I don't know if the flexpipe will be long enough though so you may have to couple another piece.
So yeah, I hope I answered your question.

About after market exhausts for rotary engines....to paraphrase Mazdatrix's quote, "the exhaust gas temperature produced by a rotary engine is impressive". Bottom line? if you don't use a high temp exhaust system, including the mufflers, you will be replacing them sooner than you want to.
