Newbie question

So i have a 86 non turbo i just put and intake and exhaust on it the car ran fine with just the exhaust now with the intake it revs to 3500 fine then at 3500 it feels like it looses alot of power and slowly climbs afeter that?? any thing i might have done wrong here or does anything know what might be happening?? also what is the big air pump that runs off a belt for?? can this be deleted or should i keep it on there? all comments are greatly appreciated

I just recently did da same, but i have no problem with the RPM, matter of fact, my idle needs to be adjusted, maybe thats what you would have to do yours, but for the hose on the air pump, you can remove it or put a small filter on it.

i did put a small filter on the air pump when i installed the intake. i have been told but dont know if this is true that if u dissconnect the air pump that the car will have tremendious amounts of backpressure almost enough to blow the exhausto off is this true?? and as far as the idle the car idles fine just like it did before??
