NEWBIE...idle problem

Ok..So...I'm just getting into the rotary lifestyle. BUT problem at hand...I just bought a 88tII.. and It wont idle. I'll start it up, and It will die 2 seconds later..like i turned it off, I've seen a lot of people sayin that the most common problem is a vacuum leak, But one of the people where I live..keeps telling me its the BAC. So...I would like to get a second "guesS" before i start digging into it in the 30 degree temps...thanks..I KNOW this has been discussed MILLIONS of times.

Check the AFM. The ECU controls fuel/spark for about the first 2-3 seconds, then it turns over control to the AFM etc. So, if the AFM isn't working then it would do about what you said.

However, it could also be a vacuum leak. If you floor it while starting it, does it stay running? I've had a massive vacuum leak where it wouldn't run under 6k (ooops) but could still start it (eventually).

try unplug the afm and see if it start, it should start and idle but will not rev if the afm is unplug. that should narrow it down. C

Yeah..i can keep it running...if i hold the RPMs at about a 1500...if I let off..it dies...then once its warm...ITS a BEAR to start...I'm guessing thats because of the leaky injectors???...which..I'm not really surprised about...But..other than that..I pretty sure from what everybody has told me...or what I've read...its a nasty vac leak.. THanks..for the the help.

it could be anything. If the car is in good condition and you want to keep it a while, why not just do a full blown tune up? Change all fluids, oil filter, belts, get new ngk spark plugs, spark plug wires, fuel filter, fuel pump strainer, upper intake manifold gasket, vacuum lines, fuel lines, fuel injector o-rings, and have your injectors cleaned. $250, but its worth it.
