That's awesome. You're gonna have to put a shitload of work into it though. Following the stock wiring with the FSM is enough of a pain in the ***, nevermind someone's jury-rigged haltech.

I live in Bountiful...a bedroom town just north of Salt Lake. I missed out on the $500 T2 with the blown motor. Someone beat me to it.

I figure that this car will need to be completely rebuilt...brakes, suspension, wiring, paint and dashboard, etc etc....not to mention that it has a mystery motor...or parted out. Do we have any votes on what I should do?

If you have the time, keep it as a second car/project. The haltech has a buttload of support (I have the E6K as well). Your wiring is a horrendous mess as you know. But if you take your time you can figure it all out. Up until 4 months ago, I knew nothing about electrical and had done no wiring in my car. I did a ton of searching and reading on this board and was able to guide myself. You just need patience and time. After 4 months and 1 wire at a time, you will know what each one is and where it feeds/runs to.

There is lots of potential with your car. Try not to result to a part out and leave one less FC on the road.

Good luck.

Truly a great buy. I'm jealous that it even came with that Haltech. It's worth more than 3 times what you actually paid! Welcome to the club, *******! (j/k, just jealous)

FORGET ABOUT THE MESSED UP WIRING! SOMEONE STOLE YOUR FACTORY SPOILER!

You will never have enough downforce!

Haha, sick find on that buy though, interested to find out where this project takes you, start making a list of what needs to be remedied!

Also, on the 5th picture of your first post of pictures, you can see the pullys and belts that run from the eccentric shaft, you clearly have no power steering, A/C or Air pump, just the alternator and the water pump to run. As a result, the water pump barely has any contact with the one belt that is left on the engine, as a result, you could develop cooling issues. To remedy this you will need to either run a dual alternator pully system, or a yoohoo belt that runs in the empty space on the water pump. I forget the part number for the yoohoo belt, but search for it on the forum, its a small belt from some sort of lawnmower or something, costs $10 from any parts dealer.

I've got a guy coming out this afternoon who is supposed to be an RX7 guru of sorts. He is going to take a look and advise. I am really tempted to strip it all the way down and build it all the way back up. I know it will take forever and cost more than it's worth, but hey...life is a learning experience, right? I am about 50-50 on the idea now. If anyone here has done something similar, I sure could use some input. Thanks for all the great words so far, guys. I'll try to get to where I can actually contribute something...maybe a webpage with my progress or something.

I tore mine down and started from scratch. Check my sig, "87 Black Beast". It's been over 3 years and the car is amazing now, but it came with a huge price. And I still haven't done body work, or finished the suspension.

You'll also notice in my sig, the same car is for sale. Asking about 1/3rd of what I have in it...
If it sells, I will never mod a rotary again! I'd probably only consider a stock, or needs-resto, 10th AE.

If they body has no rust, I say that the car is worth a lot more than you paid for. I say start the journey, and learn as much as you can!

Wow, stylEmon..I just read through your pages and you have really done a good job on the car and the documentation. I bow down!! We'll see if my car has similar potential. It is much rougher to start with and would need an even more "ground up" going through. Sites like yours are sure good inspriation though!! Unlike most here, I would like to go back to stock, with only a couple of subtle mods for driveabiltiy and reliability. I am starting with a modded car and going backwards, it seems.

I always look back and think how nice it would be to have a totally stock 7. Of coarse now that I've had the power under my seat, I'm not sure I could go back...

But you have great potential with that car. You already have the standalone. As long as it actually works, I would NOT go back to stock ECU, even if you stay at stock power levels. There is SO much support here for the E6K. You will never be lonely with that ECU and it gives you a decent amount of control. Just with 750cc secondary injectors and a Walbro, you'll be happy with the power.

Boy, you guys are really going to be pissed now. The sonofabitch actually runs! Sounds pretty good too! I'll do a compression test tomorrow. Will that give me a fair indication of health? What should I look for while running? I didn't notice any smoke...well, maybe a teeny teeny bit but it cleared out quickly. I don't know how long it has been sitting, though.

It has all kinds of electrical woes still like no lights, turn signals, wipers etc etc...but the motor is sure getting what it needs. Clutch has fluid but goes to the floor, brakes also on the floor (but no fluid) so I didn't test hop it. Oil looks good and is up to the full mark. I'll check more tomorrow. All in all, a pretty good day.

WOW this is nuts... first thing i noticed what the air filter on the turbo and the missing maf....
what a great FIND!!! take your time like we have all told ya.
wires are simple to work with once you have the FSM in front of you.
u have loads of potential on this car even with the stock turbo im running 14.04 seconds on 1/4mile only big mod is street ported witch helps but im going stand alone ecu so i can tune the car. which is what u have there and will save you loads of time and money the worst thing that can happen is u need to rewire the whole car no big deal as ur now down to the basic of a car. good luck and keep us posted. if you end up having to rebuild the engine and add some more $$ to get her up and running well i say u would have spent around 2300$ ish
which in this case ur off to a great start for a good cheap fast RX7 PROPs to the good find

Damn it, I can't believe I'm actually helping you out...I should let you find out the hard way. ****, good luck with the car and that was a damn good find...so dont **** up and do a lot of research...alright...good.

I've run the car for a total of about 30 seconds. Ran clean with no hiccups and no smoke. I wasn't even really trying to start it, just turning it over to see if it would. Started right up! I'll take it slow. I need to work on the clutch and brakes to get it mobile, as well. Weird to have a car that has such bad electrics but the motor runs so well. I wasn't even expecting it to run at all.

If the compression checks out on all faces, this car is surely a keeper, and worthwhile to restore!

The emissions removal and Haltech will simplify troubleshooting further, and since it's running half-way decent, you might only need a re-tune and have the wiring harness looked over for any poor solders, crimps, broken or exposed wires, etc.

Having no parking lights, gauges, and etc is body electrical, and could be remedied by looking at the free FSM located at the FAQ at the top of the sub-forum. If you are still not sure on how to do the compression test, there is information on that as well in the FAQ.

FAQ: https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generation-specific-1986-1992-17/frequently-asked-questions-2nd-generation-rx-7-faq-fc-494667/

Compression Test: http://rotaryresurrection.com/2ndgen...ion_check.html

Congrats on the find!

Let me throw a wrench in this discussion a bit. As you all know, I am really leery of the wiring, interior and the whole idea of bringing this car back somewhat to a stock condition. To restore this car, it will take a lot of time, effort and some money. No problem there...but I have been approached by someone who wants to trade his car for mine. His is an 87 T2 with blown motor, but otherwise in very good shape. He is offering a whole truckload of spares along with it. Am I completely insane to even consider it? In my heart I think I have something special already but getting this other one would put me on the road much faster, albeit with a "lesser" car, in my opinion. My inclination is to just keep my car and take my time. Opinions please? (Please be gentle!!! haha)

dont trade, you've already got your hands full with this car, and you've started your inspection of this car.

If you get a car with a blown motor, you'll have to start all over again, and you don't know why it blew. Could be the motor was old and tired, could be bad tuning or a unwise modification...

Don't do it.

Keep the current car you have, you will be happier in the end knowing you were able to finish up a project you picked out yourself, and on top of that you have pretty much a really good base to start off with, not even worth considering a blown TII trade....

Simply amazing.... Quite possibly the deal of the decade.

Take your time and you do your research and you will be rewarded greatly.

As far as the motor, until you can confirm the operation of the OMP (oil metering pump) run 2 stroke premix in the gasoline 50:1 - 100:1 should be fine.

I wouldn't feel comfortable with that wiring either, and since the interior is pretty much trash, I'd pull it, and go over the chasis wiring thoroughly.

G/L and may the force be w/ you

If you trade than your an idiot! you have have a black S5 T2 that started right up and has a HALTECH ECU. Your car maybe need work but isnt worth trading for anything IMO.

Your haltech is worth more than his entire car.

Edit: AND yours is a S5 turbo. Big win for you. Too bad for him.
