Newb question sorry

Guys I have such a hard time finding anything I search for, Im sure this has been discussed so I am sorry for bringing it up. What style turbo is the stock TII motor. It looks like a TD04 style to me, because it has a internal wastegate such as the DSMs do and they use a TD04. Im not a huge fan of the internal wastegate setup and would prefer a T3/T4 setup with external. My question is how do you do this? I cannot find a manifold for the S4 13BT to run a t3/t4. But, I have found adapters that go from TD04 to t3/t4 is this a bad idea?

One more question while we are on the subject. Is the stock turbo very good? My friend just pulled his turbo off his Suburu WRX, its a internal wastegate setup as well, so I would imagine it to be the same thing as a RX7 turbo. I noticed that RX7s run pretty low boost, and believe I read somewhere the max boost off a stock turbo is around 12psi. Well his turbo was running 18psi, which is obviously higher and about the range I would like to be in so is this do-able? Sorry if these are all dumb newbie questions. Any advice/answers are much appreciated.

I'd recommend that you get the turbo swap in and running before worrying about upgrading the turbo itself.
The old "don't bite off more than you can chew" theory, doncha know.

Just go with a bnr hybrid. Can be done cheap if your goals are less than 350-400hp.

Yes the stock turbo sucks.

The stock turbo is a Mazda proprietary design I believe. There are plenty of manufacturers that make TII manifolds to work with T3/T4 turbo footprints. There are a lot more things to consider when making turbo decisions as well like budget, power goals, and more. Play with the advanced search function and you will yield more results. Do some more research and you will find the answers you need. Go take a look at the single turbo section too, or for some eye candy take a look at A-SPEC's vendor forum.

Ok thanks guys. Hey Clokker I was just trying to do some parts searching, I probably wont be getting another turbo for another few months Im sure just wanna look at my options. My goals are right around mid 300s to the wheels. Would rather have a turbo that is in the middle of its max boost, say I got a turbo that runs 30psi(just numbers) would rather run that to 15-16psi then pushing the crap out of the stocker at 12psi. But at the same time dont want some monster turbo thats going to give me huge turbo lag.
