New XXR 962 (Black with Red) Fitment Problem
Guys,
I just bought a set of XXR 962 in Black with the Red stripe. I got Stag 18x7.5 and 18.9.5. Fitment and offset is fine but for some reason the center bore wont clear the front hub. Rear fits well. Front just wont go on the front hub. I dont understand when I see a lot of people fit these rims all the time. I have a 88 GTU. Dont know if for some reason that year they had a bigger front hub.
Any info on this would be great. A good solution would be better
I thought about taking it to a machine shop and having them just make the center bore bigger on the rim but i still wont be able to put a center cap on cause the hub will sick out.

i have an 86 gxl, and i had the same exact problem. i had a set of the 17x7, 17x9 staggered black with red lip 962s for like a year. literally just got tires mounted and put em on today. anyway, when i was test fitting them last summer, i noticed the front wheels wouldnt fit over the hub too. i think that thing it hits is called a grease cap. all i did was get a drill with a grinding cone and just go in circles around that lip on the wheel where the center cap would go. it took a few hours but way cheaper than going to a machine shop. that grease cap will poke through the wheel, and you wont be able to use the center cap because of that, but after a little grinding theyll fit. oh also, its not the actual center bore of the wheel, just that little lip, so its not hard to DIY, and it cant ruin the wheel structure, so no worries!
