Hope you dont mind me popping over, had to have a look at the 1JZ swap in to the RX7.

Great looking swap.. couple of quick questions though..

Howcome you ditched the coil packs? Surely you used the 1JZecu in which case the coil packs would have been fine.

Is that the stock rx intercooler? Hows it coping?

Also, youre figures are slightly out, the 1J pushes 264 ft/lb torque in standard form and redline is 7000 rpm at stock (a change of cams though and it revs 9000 easily).
The stock internals are good for up to 600 bhp (UK figures, US figures would be more due to your dyno calculations, and i dont know if this is a US forum), and by the way these are GREAT engines.

PS and yes, ditch the filter ASAP.. these things run HOT and the stock exhaust manifold is designed to restrict the turbos, hence producing a hell of a lot of heat (especially with the heat shield removed, as yours is)

20 B all the way

all that supra stuff is nice but u should stay true to the RX7 and get a 20B if you want the reall power, a turbo 20B will smoke that thing in reverse, lol

nice engine its really fast when its hooked up i had a freind with a soar with that engine in it it wasnt the new soars(lexus) but the old school ones in japan and there really nice.

cool swap, but I don't think people realize how RELIABLE and easy it is to build a 11-12 second daily driver TII. People just have to take a step back, quit being idiots, and do the right work and mods on the cars. I think one reason for the rotary reputation is lack of knowledge, but after I've dug into my tII, I love how easy and how reliable it has been for me. But I have more hours in research than in wrench time..

Anyrate, that is a badass swap though. I love the supra. I wouldn't mind taking it for a spin!!

after seeing this thread, it makes me keep looking at this mklll on the side of the road and wondering if would fit in my vert, could use the extra power to move this thing

the mkiii you see on the side of the road will be a 7MGTE, unless its converted to a 1JZ (rare) and is pants compared to the 1JZ.

turboren 02-24-03 10:11 PM

You know, I was thinking this was a 4-banger for some reason.

So, if this is so similar to the 2JZ, what is the advantage of going with the 1JZ instead? Especially since this engine was not available in the States, I would think it would be more cost-effective to go with a 2JZ.

I just dont understand some things...
An LS-x would weight less, have better weight distribution and make more power-
But whatever, put that iron block, top heavy DOHC, long ass motor in the nose of a lightweight stiff chassis.

Hope turn in and cg don't go to hell with your setup.

Audiogod007 02-26-03 06:44 PM

We have discussed the weight thing already, it is balanced out by my stereo and then I also rememberd I didnt ask you Dyre. It is getting some ARP's right now and a new radiator, prolly a Koyo for a SupraTT and some new ducting for the fan. The 1J is much cheaper than the 2J and the parts are interchangeable. The only things that you cant use from a 2J are its head, timing belt, block and crank...so parts isnt a huge deal, for whoever asked, it is a stand alone ECU with its own DFU which is why I got rid of the coil on plug. I have assisted on many quick TII's and know what it takes, I just like to be different. And for the 20B lover, ill let you know this fall i did against Pinaple built 20B TT third gen....hes shooting for 500RWHP....I should have 750-800RWHP...so ill let ya know. The car is about to go down again for phase 2 consisting of: 6 speed, Tubular divided manifold, T76, 6-850CC injectors, new engine cradle with steering rack back to its home and maybe a sway bar back allowed by a dry sump oil system and some other stuff, but you cant let out all your secrets. I am happy with the swap, it just has alotta details as you can imagine and I dont want to take it to the track with out being 100% ready to kick some ass, so until then, it wont be out there...I dont want it to run a 12 and have people think thats all it can do. here is a link with pretty much every thing on it, you always forget stuff though you know how it is... its pics are old, I need to get another digi cam....My car

Audiogod007 02-26-03 06:47 PM

Ohh, and 7M's are bad luck, I was gonna do that first...but had a lotta negative reviews off them....the JZ motors are way cooler...

Sorry, this is a public forum and its the truth. Im not talking about total weight, Im talking about placement of mass. If you wanted a nose heavy sled, MKIV supras already out there...

Audiogod007 02-26-03 08:06 PM

What all do you have done to your TII? Cuz Ive probably had it twice..still didnt ask for your input and still am not bothered by the fact that it still has 50/50....

West TX RX-7 02-26-03 08:28 PM

Great job guys!! Looks like a tight fit. You do realize your intake filter is right above the turbos and the air there will be hot, hot, hot. Maybe you have a plan for this, a shield might work some but it'd be better to get that air comming from a different spot.

Audiogod007 02-26-03 08:47 PM

Yea, I got some more mandrel bends and made a new pipe, at the time the pics were taken, I was outa bends!!!

karlcroak 02-26-03 09:48 PM

thats badass i have an 88 gtu with major engine issues and i just got an 84 supra for the low (50$) they thought it was blown up.. well come to find out a little tlc and the thing runs great..body is still shit though .. and i was seriosly considering the same swap ... thats awesome to see someone with a nearly finished supra7 .. looks like the only way to be original with an rx7 engine swap is to use a completely undesirable engine..also i have a couple of questions, is it a manual if so how much trouble was it to get the other trans in and working... did you buty a kit or did you fabricate the engine mounts yourself?

Dyre 02-26-03 10:24 PM

*Yawn*
If you don't understand there alot more to weight distribution that 50/50 split than I'll leave you to your delusions.

For the record, Im not against piston engine swaps.
I'm just against swaps that don't make any sense.

karlcroak 02-26-03 11:17 PM

i was thinking of doing a similar swap ... how did the shifter line up ? and did you buy a kit for the mounts or make them yourself?

Audiogod007 02-27-03 01:47 AM

I made them all my self, I do understand that there is more, but like i asked before, what do you have done to your TII.... I dont autoX the car much anymore, its been down that road, ive done that stage of my life, and for the record, and having to drive it every day, it is a little bit different, but not much, not enough to worry about, thanks for your concern though. and the shifter is 4" further forward than that of the RX7

Audiogod007 02-27-03 01:50 AM

Ohh, yea, and do you want to race?
