Actualy i believe its 240 hp stock. And the 2j and 1j are almost the exact same block.

600HP CLUB 01-08-03 02:27 AM

nice swap something unique though, i wouldn't do it, but it's cool though, i'm in too deep with rotaries at the moment i don't think i'll ever change, because it is all about crazy idles.......

Are they similar in terms of power output potential?
I know 2JZ engines can (and many do) have up to 950 RWHP on COMPLETELY stock internals.
Pretty amazing. Since the 1JZ is a 2.5L and not 3.0L (83.33% as big)....

My question is basically can the 1JZ internals handle 792 rwhp? (which is 83.33% of 950).

I don't expect it to, but any ideas on what the 1JZ internals are good up to?

If the 1JZ has crazy potential like it's older bro, this would be a VERY good swap to do, since the 1JZ engine can be found for FAR LESS than 50% the price of a 2JZ engine.

Audiogod007 01-08-03 08:44 AM

Yes, similar out, the 1J actually has way more low end grunt then a 2J. it is 280 BWHP stock with 300 or so BT, i have seen several dyno at 350 RWHP and 375WRT with nothing more then 3" in and 3" out and 12 LBS of boos. A single t78 is more likely what im going to do.....twin t66 would be insane.

Node 01-08-03 10:48 AM

definately better than the other Supra 7. That other one was utter trash.
Doesn't look half bad. Almost like it belongs in that engine bay. Not that more people should do this ;)

Jim Swantko 01-08-03 11:00 AM

Very cool. I'd fab up a cold air intake to get the air filter away from the turbos.

Also... twin 66's is nuts... Keith Ta did them on his car... it made huge HP... but I wouldn't want it on the street. If it's a street car I HIGHLY recommend a single T-66, Q-trim, .7 A/R (I've got something very close to this on my MKIV and love it). Also check out the SP74... it's a bad-ass mofo.

BDoty311 01-08-03 03:33 PM

Im sorry I didnt realize how much of an overweight pig those Supras are. MKIV are only like 3600 lbs so I didnt think that it would weigh 3800lbs.

Audiogod007 01-08-03 09:33 PM

Thanks everyone, it went over alot better then I thought it would. It has some clean up to be done still, but most of you realize that, and I apperciate it. I will keep you all posted for sure and get some pics up as I go. That radiator is not going to like 100 Degree temps in the summer, so that is priority #1, but im kinda limited, but address it as you go. Rxtasy RX_treme and a couple others are going to go out and do some video action on sunday!!

Wicked swap dude!!!! keep it original. Toyota makes a solid motor. Waaaaaaay cooler thn a V8 swap!!!!!!!

Dangit. I asked some of you guys if I should do this same swap when I blew the motor in the GXL. I got flamed. WTF!

Anyways. What I want to let you know is that if you want to keep your intake point at that point in the piping where you have it, I can make an aluminium box with great flow that will seal to the stock IC scoop. drop me a pm and we can make a deal. I'll need some measurements. Hit me up bro.

Any updates? How close is the car to being finished?
Be sure to go to a weigh scale to get total weight, and front/rear weight distribution numbers.
A dyno is always nice too :)

bkapold@aol.com 01-20-03 07:13 AM

Very cool !!

whats that supposed to mean.

Bridgeported 01-20-03 03:33 PM

Yeah I don't get that either.
The intake temps will be higher than optimal though. I think I read somewhere that that is just the temperary setup. After he gets it running he will relocate it.

hmm.. when i asked about putting a 3SGTE into an FC i got flamed also. i think its a wonderful little 2L monster. similiar to the 2JZ minus 2 cylinders. bah.. anyways.. good job on the swap! ya mind taking more pictures of how the 1JZ fitted? (crossbar, under engine, sides, etc.) along with maybe problems or things for others to consider when attempting to do a similiar/same swap?

Spraintz 01-21-03 01:03 AM

it might me just me, but i think there are soooooo many projects and swaps out there that people either never start or never finish. So, to see a unique swap that has actually been pulled off and working/looking good demands a little more respect than "hopeful" swappers.

thats one reason i try to not talk too much about my TII swap until its actually done......damn, I even did it;)

keep us updated.

Bridgeported 01-21-03 02:07 AM

3sgte is a great option - dont' let the flamers discourage you! It's one of the best japanese 4cyls ever built... right up there with the SR20 and the 4G63.
