New with some questions

Hello everyone im new to the whole rx7 world i used to own an rx8 and didn't like it all. But i have always had a soft spot for white FC's. Im leaving in may for Boot Camp for the navy and when i finish it and A school i would like to by a FC now my question on that topic is if i get a non turbo II FC can i order the Turbo II motor and swap it in? If so will it fit with the regular motor mounts or would there be custom work that needs to be done? another question is i have noticed that the car has a top mount intercooler is it possible to remove it and switch it to a front mount? And im sure theres a thread on this but what should be some key features i should look for when trying to by my FC?

thank you for taking the time to read this and thank you anyone who contributes information.

Okay. Ill go first. Why would a TURBO II FC have a non-turbo motor in it?
And second, yes you can put a TURBO II motor in the FC as long as the series match up. 86-88 S4 , 89-91 S5

And if you dont like the RX-8 your gonna hate owning a FC.

I dunno, I always thought the RX-8 was kinda similar to the FC, just more updated.

The motor will swap right in with little trouble as long as you match the motor series to the car series. s4 = 1986-1988, s5 = 1989-1992. You might need some things to mate the tranny to the NA differential, etc. (see mazdatrix.com), but the motor mounts and wiring hook right up. However, those JDM turbo motors you can order are well known to be a gamble; it might die in a couple weeks and the warranty won't cover it. A rebuild is around $3k. It's a common swap. Search forums for more info.

Yes, many people buy aftermarket front mount intercoolers. Search forums for more info.

The FAQ covers all the features & options for the FC. Nothing's really essential, unless you want A/C, power steering, ABS, etc., etc. The FAQ has links to buyers guides, which will help you avoid lemons. That's a much more important consideration.

You would be better off saving your time and money, and just picking up a tII.

well im thinking of going and finding a shell in really good condition so if it was a NA i was curious about the swap thats all and as for the rx8 i really hated a couple things about like the suicide doors in the back and my friend has a R1 FD and the rx8 was lacking the turbo which in my opinion was a real draw back from the car in my opinion but thank you for the information

Thats good to know that the jdm motors are a gamble!!! i was going to say i found one for 1699.99 that includes
* Block
* Turbo
* Intercooler
* Intake Manifold
* Sensors
* Exhaust Manifold
* Fuel Rail
* Injectors
* Throttle Body
* Alternator
* Power Steering Pump
* Wiring Harness
* ECU
* 5 Speed RWD Transmission

but i would be pretty pissed if i bought one and it blew up in a couple weeks is there any particular reason for this ? and is there any way to avoid it other then just buying a turbo II? and i will definitely read the facts about lemons thank you very much for the informative post.
