Arrow New to rx-7's help the new guy out!

Hello everyone,
I have always been a fan of the Rx-7 FC3 series but never had the money for one well now. I have one, a bright red beauty. She is a 1987 rx-7 coupe Not turbo, *All Stock* All works. I have the original radio. I needed help because when I talk to people about rx-7's they give me a around the tree answer. SO know I want you the *RX-7 PRO's* To help lil ol` me! So here is my questions.(1) I want a duel exhaust that would help me in preformance as well is not a rice burner exhaust. (2) I also want to know what is a good swap for my car? (3)I see that alot of people have a spacer for the cd players where can I get one? (4) What is a good short shifter and what is a good clutch? Well if you answer these question thanks!

1. racing beat exhaust: http://www.racingbeat.com/

2. turbo II swap, you'll need to swap motor tranny, driveshaft, and rear end, or get a conversion driveshaft

3. i don't know... i put in some gauges there but you should be able to get one at any good car audio store

4. clutch- exedy or act. i dunno about short shifters tho

haha yeah i'm an ex-chevy guy myself, just got the rx7 4 months ago, wasn't running when i bought it, and looked like ****, but it's come a long way since then . it's sites like this where i learned everything, and make sure you have a copy of the fsm, that's a huge help! rotaries seemed a little overwhelming at first, but you'll get used to em

A lot of people like to swap in the Miata short shifter. You can also get aftermarket ones.

True duals won't make a big difference compared to another performance exhaust. Either way, you can get an exhaust from Racing Beat that will outlast your car, make good power, and have a nice mild tone (not ricer tone). Make sure you read up on the 5th and 6th ports first. They are similar to VTEC and are exhaust backpressure activated. You lose 25 HP w/o them, which defeats the purpose of getting an exhaust unless you make sure those ports are still opening.

A jspec turbo II engine is $1000-$1500 IIRC. Dropping it in is supposed to be relatively easy, assuming you get one made for the 1986-1988 a.k.a. s4 RX-7 (not the 89+ a.k.a. s5). But knocking/overboost is the 2nd most common cause of a blown rotary engine, next to overheating. NA's run so rich they pretty much never knock.

Besides that, the standard sports car upgrades will work on an RX-7. Search for more info. You also might need DTSS eliminators if your DTSS is bad, to avoid handling problems (from mild to deathtrap). Again, search for more info.

And, like any car, basic maintenance comes first. Grab a Haynes manual/etc.

the car stereo thing you need is called a dash kit. its what makes your stuff look good. i work at best buy, and the part you need is 19.99. you also will need a wiring harness, that its self it another 14.99 if im right. and if you have a factory amp, rip it out and re-route your speakers!

I went with a single exhaust set up. My 7 is the quietest mod'd 7 in town.

One MagnaFlow muffler in the middle( BIG oval-shapped), and another (smaller cylidrical) on the tip. i used 2.5" pipe, except the 3" DP.

Cost less than RB and WAY quieter.

Welcome to the forum. Download the FSM (in my sig. - how's that for convenience?). You'll see info about the auxiliary ports mentioned (the 6PI system) in chapter 4-A. Racing Beat sells exhaust systems designed with 6PI in mind for S4's. You just have to make sure the stuff on your end works fine and isn't seized. A good swap is an S4 TII 13BT engine as stated (note the forward part of the exhaust is different so keep that in mind if buying an exhaust with a swap in mind).

If you like or want to keep the stock look of the factory radio, get an FM modulated CD changer that hooks up to your factory radio antenna (you can hook it up between the plug behind the radio or near the antenna).

Like i mentioned before... PM meximan if you want some nice close peeps to hang with.... other than that, you are surround by good folk in the olympia/ tacoma area who can help you out with stuff.... im one of them...... I woul dgo with the mazdaspeed short shifter.... and as far as seats go, pick a brand! they can all mostly fit with custom brackets... Ive had great luck with Sparco seats, and i nailed down a bracket system to bolt them to the stock sliders, works great!

As far as the LSD goes.... what model is your car again? GTU? GXL ect.... or the fastest way to tell for sure (since it may have been swapped) is to jack up that rear end, and spin one wheel. If they both spin: LSD, if only the one spins: Sucks to be you... Buy an LSD.

Yeah, it hinges down perfectly into the empty spare hole.... thats where i keep my amps... and the sides have latches with locks..... haha.

Regarding the carpet, i removed all the rigid supports and vents, mounted the box with hinges bolted to the frame, then i wrapped the carpet around the box....
