New RX-7 owner

Hello everyone, my name is Ryan, im 17 and live in St.Louis, MO. I have just bought a beautiful 1988 GXL (besides burgundy interior eww!) and I have a few Q's to ask. I have been a DSM person since I have been 15, just sold my 1994 GSX pushing 450+ and have made my switch to the rotary world! What are some key problems I should look out for with the engine? Also does anybody know any good sites to order stock/performance parts off of ? (Example would be I would like to purchase a stock wing for the car since the GXL does not come with one) My third and fourth Q's would be is there anywhere I could order interior parts/carpet to swap out the burgundy or should I hit up a junkyard? and how easy is it to do the turbo engine swap into the GXL? I read that it has the turbo 2 transmission and brakes already? Thanks ~ Ryan

I really suggest reading the stickies in this forum before posting. Other than that, nice GXL.

Hahahahaha, the key problem is "rotary." Naw, just kidding. Best bet is to start with a compression test, if you score above 105'ish, you're in good shape and you shouldn't have to worry about it. Check back here after that if you score low.

Mazdatrix.com sells a lot of OEM and aftermarket accessories, but there are plenty of sites out there that also do. Just search around, and check the banner at the top of this site periodically (lots of times there are good store links).

There is always plenty of talk about the N/A->Turbo swap, just do a search for it. There are a few key problems that you'll run into when trying this swap that you will need to research.

Welcome to the rotary world.

I belive aaroncake's site www.aaroncake.net has a writeup on the turbo swap. Basically its not too bad if you have good mechanical skills and patience, but you will have to custom fab some parts.
For the interior, junkyards are your best bet. As stated, mazdatrix is good for stock parts. If you plan on racing it, check out www.mazdamotorsports.com. As for the turbo brakes and tranny, I dont think so. I know the GXL has the 5-lug and better brakes, but im not sure if its the same as the turbo's. I know it doesnt have the turbo tranny, though.
