New RX-7 Owner
Well as of 3:00 pm I became the proud owner of an 1988 Mazda RX-7 S4 model. I didn't get to take it for a drive as of yet, she wouldn't start when I went to pick it up. So me and my buddy Shawn got it to my house. I attempted to start turn it over, and of course it just cranked wouldn't start. So I went to AutoZone, picked up new plugs, dry gas, fuel injector cleaner, and let's not forget GAS. So I changed out the plugs, put in the dry gas, filled it up with 5 gallons of premium gas, tried to turn it over again and the battery started to die. So then went and got a jump box from my mechanic. We hooked up the jumper box, cranked it a few times and this time she FIRED.
She breathed her first breath of life with her new owner. Of course she smoked for a few minutes because of the condensation that's built up. After about 5 minutes she stopped smoking and was running really nice, but I looked down at the guages and notice she had no oil pressure so I shut her off. I'm so damn STOKED though that I got her to fire, clutch works, brakes work, lights, she seems to be doing pretty well.
So now I know I have some work to do on her, but this is one happy RX-7, and RX-8 owner. So of course I have big plans for her, it's going to take time, and money. Which with moving to my new office I'll have both the time and the money. I'll be frequenting this site a hell of a lot more often now. I guess it's time to update my profile now WOOT WOOT.

Welcome!!!
The S4's have tendency for the oil pressure guage to go out (a friend of mine randomly works). I'm not certain how to fix it, though...consider this a free bump!

you could have inadvertently bumped the oil pressure sender unit wire off of it's connector, look under the oil filter and check to be sure the single wire lead is connected to the bulb shaped gold canister under the filter, that is the pressure sender unit.
if it is still connected, pull it off and clean it out with some brake cleaner. the connectors have a tendency to get crap in them and not have a good connection, also wouldn't hurt to take a little sandpaper to the connector on the sender unit.

Sweet thanks for the info guys. It's a 1988 non-turbo'd RX-7 S4 model. I bought it for a project car, and the fact that I only paid 700 bucks for it, it's in really good shape. I'll post pics sometime. But I'm going to see what I can do about swaping out the old 13b with either a twin turbo'd 13b, or the renesis 13b. I know that's going to including changing all the harnesses and all that good stuff, but I guess that's what projects are for. Again thanks for the information people, I'll take a look at it in the morning and see what the deal is. I know when I was changing out the plugs I was kinda moving wires out the way, so hopefully that'll be the fix.

You'd have a much easier time swapping in a 13BT (2nd gen single turbo) motor- much less hassle than the 13b-rew (3rd gen twin turbo)or renesis with similar HP gains (with a few bolt on mods)

well like I said it's strickly a project car. So the hassle, is going to be all part of the fun. I'm hoping it doesn't take longer the 1 year to complete, that's including, engine swap, upgraded tranny, rims, body kit, interior, basically the works, something to have fun with. I'll be updating from time to time.

Oh by the way I got the oil pressure gauge to work, we changed the oil, new plugs, a set of gauges (air/fuel, oil, temp, volts) She's running just a tad bit rich, but not much. I took her out on the road today for 2 laps around my block, shifts real good, feels nice and smooth, might need a new clutch and throw out bearing. So far though things are looking really good. I'll post pictures in a few minutes.
