New Rx-7 Carpet

New Rx-7 Carpet
Shopping around for new Carpet for the front of the Rx7. Who has purchased, what company did you buy it from and what was your experience with it?
I've looked at a few ebay companies and while the carpet is cheap (130 bucks) it's also thin, and not "mass backed" with insulation or rubber like the stock carpet is. Black Dragon/LMC truck/Victoria British wants 280 for there set, but is it comparable to the stock carpet?

I bought ACC carpet thinking "well, i aint paying much but it is only carpet right"
I got fucked. the carpet is thin, which was ok with me , the molding in the carpet sucked which still was ok with me, the underpadding was hilarious and then i put the carpet on the car and to my ******* surprise was too short on the sides, it will not reach the ******* sides. Leaving me short for a few inches on each side. so i had to cut it in half and put another peice of carpet in the center to cover. so it became a ******* 3 piece ******* front carpet
Didnt look bad afterall but What did i learn? buy regular carpet cut it and mold it yourself, or take it to a shop that does this type of work.
i highly doubt any of those carpets from those companies are anything comparable with the stock one. i read the stock ones are around $900 new, not sure.

rug
I just pulled my rug to dynamat and you'd be suprised how much sound deadning insulation/rubber there actually is underneath the factory rug, its actually quite heavy and well done, I doubt an aftermarket piece could match that quality. Used factory rugs can be found on ebay and the forum classifieds quite easily.
I'm also in search of a clean black factory rug.
God luck

I'm swapping in the carpet from an '87 AT. It's the plusher carpet available from the factory, and doesn't look bad, for being 20 yrs old! I'm going to have it professionally dyed black, cause I hate the red, and the way it bleaches out to babysh*t brown in the sun.

Since were on the topic has anyone cut up and make there own carpet? I know they sell a roll of carpet at some auto stores. How hard would it be to take out the stock carpet and trace around it. Quality wont be the same and fitment might not be as good. I just want to replace mines since the previous owner was a dirty bastard. Stains and rips all over... I don't really care if it doesn't fit that well or if it's real thin.

My thoughts on the (abysmal) ACC replacement carpet, along with pictures, are in this thread:
https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showthread.php?t=777384
After the experience with the ACC carpet, I would have no issues paying $900 for the new OEM set. It would have saved me a week of fitting and is of much higher quality.
I've never cut my own carpet but I suspect that with patience, anyone can do it. The hatch area will be easy but the compound curves on the inner wheel wells will take some molding. You can mold the carpet by heating the back of it with a heat gun. The floor area of the front will likely need to be done in two pieces at least.

But there are some people who needs NEW carpet for a good price and good quality. OEM Carpet from $900-$1.400?? pocket size aint big... anyways are Black Dragon molded carpets good quality? Because I had their catalog for years and always wondered if their carpets are good quality or close to OEM quality..

Based on those experiences, I would have no issues paying for an OEM carpet set.

I purchased and received one from StockInteriors.com. Although I have not installed it yet, I would suggest it based on the quality, texture, looks, and feel of it. It is oversized which allows you to cut it exactly as you need to fit your car and there are no holes cut so you must do some of the work to complete the fit. I went with the ExtraPlush option and would suggest spending the money for it - they offer the mass backing option as well. Best of all, it's made in the USA!

No, no they do not.
Unless there was something defective about mine, and others received bad carpets as well, the ACC carpet for the 2nd gen is most certainly a poor quality item. Fit is horrible. The moldings are not deep enough. Not enough material in some areas. Mine had missing tufts and damaged seams. The rear pieces don't fit properly (not enough material to cover gaps). The maroon colour of mine was several shades lighter then factory.

If the OEM carpet is not all matted down almost worn threw or has holes in it already, if it just has some stains and faded why dont you just take the carpet out scrub it up and dye it. I just dyed some carpet for my vert it was that lite tan color and i dyed it black. Turned out really really well i took pics of it but its like jet black and blurrs the camera. ill post it up if anyone wants to see it

I would think you could get a much nicer custom made and installed molded high quality carpet for less than the $1400 oem price. haha, maybe I'm wrong about that, but I wouldn't pay for that, gotta be a nice alternative.
