Talking New to Rotary's

Hi, my name is Jonny, i'm 18 years old, I live about an hour west of Atlanta. I just got a 1987 Mazda RX-7 Turbo II. I traded a 1994 Mitsubishi Eclipse (that didn't run) for the car. The RX-7 doesn't run either, the guy a traded with said it had low compression or something but I took the trade anyway because I've always been very interested in rotary engines and how they work and I've never had any hands on experience with one so I figured what the hell? I'm not losing anything and the eclipse had been sitting outside my shop for over a year anyway. The car has the following modifications already done to it: 3" dual catback exhaust, RC injectors, Greddy BOV, bigger turbo(not sure of size), and a aftermarket fuel pressure regulator. The body is in fair shape it's been wet sanded and everything for paint. So far I've not got the car to fire up I attempted a compression test the other day which I've found out is a lot different from a piston type engine, but I'm guessing the apex seals are shot and I'm probably gonna have to do a rebuild, but I found this site and thought I would sign up so you guys could help me out with this new toy. I'm more into Mini trucks, I've got a bagged 1994 Toyota pickup that I built and drive daily.

thats way cool. i love mini trucks. i want to do really bad but im really picky when it comes to the lines on the truck. right now i have a 1973 VW beetle that im putting a rotary in. i already gutted the interior and chopped the top. i just have to finish shaving it and buy the replacement fiberglass pannels. i like the shaved look that minitrucks have so i figured what the hell. you work with what you got

If you're going to do your first rotary rebuild, get one of the videos that walk you through the process. Piston engine rebuild experience will help in general but the rotary engine is a whole different animal.

Here's a link to one of the videos:

If you plan on doing the rebuild yourself, go for the Atkins rebuild video.... people seem to have great luck with it!

I'm debating on doing the rebuild myself. I would like to get it ported and all of that. I've been looking around on the internet and I was on Rotary Resurrection's website and I'm kinda leaning towards buying one of their engines. I mean the base price is $1000 and then to get it ported is only like an extra $300. I mean the cheapest I found a rebuild kit is $900 so I don't think thats too bad too have it ported and everything. Anybody disagree? Have any of you ever done business with Rotary Resurrection?
