new racing beat header..man is this thing loud.
Just got our car back.New motor(from mazda) cause the other went south. While we were putting a new motor in we had our guy install a racing beat header. He had a "y" made(no more cats) and the previuous owner had just put on new mufflers.....the thing is loud.It sounds cool but it's my wifes daily driver car and she thinks it's to loud.Would a resonater help??

well what kind of mufflers were put on the car? my car has a racing beat header, presilencer, and borla exhaust system and is a bit loud. not as loud as some but still louder than i would like it. i am considering swapping the presilencer with a different piece. some people might call it a "resonating midpipe" or whatever but its basically a third muffler of some type stuck there to quiet it down. i have heard of people using magnaflows and borla's xr-1 for this.
also if he had the mufflers replaced with stock ones...those don't do anything at all really after you have a header and no emissions on the car. you're going to need some higher quality stuff.

I have 1 high-flow cat, and a Borla XS muffler, and it is very sedate. It sounds very muscular once you get wide open in the upper RPMs, but it's quiet enough to sound nearly stock yet still turn heads. Does that make sense?

As others have pointed out, it's not the header alone that is making the noise. I have the full RB street port exhaust (including RB header) on my 1Gen, and I can hardly tell that the engine is running when standing outside the car. The previous exhaust on my 1Gen had an RB header and long collected custom race exhaust with a cheap muffler, and it was entirely too loud for street use.

well, i'm bringing this back up from the dead..
i have a ported rebuilt engine with RB headers and RB presilencer.. and it is WAY TOO LOUD.. should i just put on some new cats? would that make it a lil quieter? because right now my folks don't really like the noise..
