new motor, redline?

so I'm just getting a /very/ fresh motor running, it's ran about twice now for a total of maybe 2-3 minutes tops. I am doing some tuning with the megasqirt and while obviously I don't want to rev the crap out of a very fresh engine, how many RPM can it see? 3000? 4000? It's a bridgeport with all brand new seals, brand new stat. gears and main bearings (not rotor bearings)

I've seen the general useage to be like...first 400 miles, don't go over 3000rpm. 400-800 miles, 4000rpm. 800-1200 miles, 5000rpm. Etc, etc etc..

With all new seals and stuff, you might be able to go for less mileage inbetween each rev-up. And since your bridge, it would take a long time to get to redline on this scale

And oil changes very often! :O

i can understand being careful with a new engine but some of you guys are being overly protective, by the time it is fully broken in by some people's standards the engine life will be half over, what's the point in protecting it then?

vary the RPMs up to 4000 RPMs til you have 1000 miles on it then go nuts, do the first oil change at 500 and every 3000 thereafter.

Yea I thought that breakin time was pretty drastic too. Hell by the time you go to 9k rpms the engine will have like 50,000 miles on it. lol

if you had a shop rebuild it, ask them how you should break in their engine. i would just vary the RPM (dont let it sit at idle or one constant cruising speed) until the engine built full compression, 500-2000k miles? then go like hell like its ment to.

I didn't really mean breakin, I'm pretty sure I know what I'm doing for that.

FYI mazda says (on a dyno) the engine should take about 2 hours to break in, I'll probably do it their way as they know best.

I was more wondering what the "intial" redline should be, 4k seemed high to me but I guess it's just because of how loud the ****** is right now
