New member in Spokane

Hey my name is Jim and im new to the forum. I recently bought an 86 rx7, mostly stock, just has TII 5 lug suspension and wheels. 4 piston calipers all around. A friend and i did a ghetto drop on it, took paradise racing springs for an ae86 and cut them and did some other work for the front, and cut the rears. should just be temporary until i scrape together some money for coilovers. uhm i put a cone filter on to breath better and maybe get +1hp haha. nology hotwires and im in the process of painting satin black, was red with white fender, front bumper, headlight. Anyways, im into drifting and thats what ive been using it for. I'm more of a toyota guy, but ive always loved rx7's. in the past year or so i've owned 4 AE86's, an mk3 turbo supra and some other daily drivers. enough talking though, here's some pics.

sorry i dont have many pics of the rx7 yet, ive been busy with moving lately, thanks for looking!
Jim

actually if you put a cone filter on without a cold air box, you probably robbed yourself of 5 HP

hey thanks guys, i still have lots of work to do on it obviously, but I'm having fun with it so far. As for the -5hp that may be true, im sure you know more than i do about it. But i took out the clear lights below the headlights cause i dont like them, so im sure a little more fresh air is getting into the engine bay. Oh the car also has an aluminum hood, i hear its kinda rare?

Removing the Flash to Pass lenses will do nothing to increase the air flow to the behind the headlight or the engine compartment at all.

Sounds like you are on your way to making a nice ricer. Cone filters without cold air box, removing the FTP lenses (they are not lights- they are so you can flash the headlights with raising them)... next thing you'll be asking is how you can put a third gen motor in. Whoops that would actually increase performance, instead of what you have done... all of which decreases performance.

Please sell the car. It appears you don't get it already.

+1 at least he didnt ask the lazy headlight question, i have gone off on somone for that and gotten banned, fair waring, dont be a dick, dick.

Satin black is nice, i almost painted my project car that color. Be careful with the cut springs . . . i woulda just left them stock until you can get your hands on aftermarket.
This website is your key to anything on the car, when i came here i didnt even know how to change my oil, now i'm doing a full interior, engine swap etc. on a car i picked up cheap. The info is here, just search and you shall find. Welcome to the club.

haha i wouldn't say im ricing it out. I like my engine bay to be simple, so i basically put on the cone filter to get rid of the big stock air box for more room. I also took off the ac and bolted the conductors off the nology wires into the existing mounting holes cause it cleaned up the side of the engine bay as well. I'll probably put an electric fan on it soon, not cause of its super high performance cooling abilities that'll give me +75hp, but mostly to get rid of the stock fan and shroud which is fricken huge. As for these flash to pass lenses which are worthless to me (i keep my headlights up and on at all times), i took them out just becuase i don't like how they look, and becuase i was painting it. I didn't take the out for crazy airflow to my all stock engine, pfff. Obviously you think you're king **** knowitall around here, thats fine, but there's no reason for you to talk **** about my car or bash a new member to make yourself look good. Thanks to everyone else who was kind and welcomed me, and thanks for the comment on my 86, it's my baby. Ronin: keep in mind, just because im new to this site doesn't mean anything. I'd like to see your car, you should post up a few pics in this thread if you have the chance.
thanks
Jim

thanks for the advice, ill defenitely be reading through the tech to learn a few things. I've had quite a few cars with cut springs though, it'll be fine, we cut the stock fronts which are progessive haha so they rubbed on everything when we put it back on the ground, thats why we had to put in the ar1 front coils, it rides good though. It drifts very well with the suspension also, even at high speeds when some cut springs like to do the "wave" Anyways, i know my stuff when it comes to piston engines and ive been into cars since i was a little kid. this is my uhhhh 29th car/truck and my 1st rotary, so we'll see how it goes.

Actually would not recomend removing the stock fan if your drifting it. I don't know how good you are or how hard you'll push the car, but unless you put in a serious $$$ fan with a high CFM and shroud you'll just end up with an overheating nightmare drifting it

actually I kinda agree with him.

Nology wires??? LOL you didn't see that those also have been dyno tested to show an actual loss of high RPM power.

Much like Ronin, I think you'll be posting problems caused by your ill concieved modifications and wanting to know how to fix them very shortly

Thanks for the suggestions guys. As for the e-fan, a friend i drift with also drives an fc and he has a junkyard fan and has no problems at all and he drifts his fc harder than i do. I can see how this could be true in some cases, but it'd have to be a super shitty fan probably? either way thanks, it's something for me to consider now. The nology wires...they were in the back of the car in a box along with other various replacement parts. I put them on cause the stock wires were cracked and shitty, not looking for hp. This community is a lot different than than the ae86 im used to, so much **** talking already. I realize some of you are trying to help out, but to those who are just being dicks, it's my car and my choice...not yours.

Well the big difference here is that the majority of modifcations that are possible to be done, have already been done... 15 years ago.

So many of the common ricer mods such as a cone air filter, big aircraft aluminum wings, or fancy spark plug cables (that may occasionally work on a economey car) have long since been proven to actually loose power and speed on a sports car like the RX-7.

And then of course some of the other mods (like bigger injectors or even a oversized fuel pump) have also been proven to show less power on a rotary unless stand alones or piggy back is tuned to take advantage of such things.

So coming in and talking crap about members bashing is pretty dumb. The difference here is that people are trying to help you and are realistic with what can and can not be done. Something that you generally don't find on many other boards.

And having met Ronin, I can say that he could care less about you thinking he is cool or not of if posting telling you that you made a mistake, would make him feel good. Probably would make him feel bad. Then again he was trying to help you... but if you are too much of a child to get that... well then this may not be the board for you.

I havent really been on here since i posted this thread, but i thought you guys might wanna see a quick update. I've done a little work on it and am pretty happy with it as of now. Had some electrical issues, but nothing really serious. I'm taking off the stock duals here pretty soon and doing a 2.5 single out the back, and this weekend im picking up some s14 fivespoke wheels for it. anyways heres a few pics, enjoy/hate on it/anything.
thanks

where did i get the bumper? lol it came with the rest of the kit. i painted it like that a little while ago, im painting the sides and front the same to see if i like it. if not im just gonna spray the kit to match the car, so we'll see. the car with urban camo like that might have been a kid from tri-cities, his whole car was painted like that for awhile, but it didn't have a kit.
isaac- whats ur car look like, i might have seen you around, you should post a pic up here in the thread if you can. send me a pm with your number if you want, id like to check it out sometime.
