new idea for cai
my car is now exempt of all ac junk under the hood. that means that in between the bumper and radiator there is a really big hole full of nice and cold air.
my idea for an s4 N/A
materials. 3" exhaust pipe 3 feet long with a 90* in the middle. filter and adapter. a 2" long piece of 3" od rubber, and 3 hose clamps.
take a 3" hole cutter and cut on the pass side sheet metal just before the radiator. cut the bottom of the factory filter box off( the part that bolts up to the VAF). leaving the box in there making it look totally stock. get some plasticweld and shape the air box over the piping, seal it and fill with ice on track day.bolt the adapter to the vaf, leaving it in its original spot. cut the pipe to length and slide it into the 3" hole and bolt that to the adaptor using the 3" rubber hose junk. bolt the filter to the other end of the pipe inside the big empty space.
seems like it would work, but my car is under 6" of snow right now. what do you guys think?

Our intake is similar but only requires trimming of a bracket. It fits with AC on or off the car. THe only thing that probably gets in the way of our intake is the hose for the ECV muffler.
I would say it would definately work but its unneeded to cut a big hole in the sheetmetal when you can just trim a bracket and have a nice looking frame.

Ofcoarse I can sell it for 20 dollars. If I make it out of paper.
All of out parts are quality peices. I am saying that your design is not that good. If you measure the CAI that I made and the stock intake tract they are virtually the same length. The only difference is that instead of the duct being ontop of the radiator where it gets heated up by the hot coolant is is infront of the radiator and away from the engine bay where temps exceed 180*F often during driving and moreso when you shut down and heatsoak occurs.

I'll bet they did some testing to verify it helps before they built it..
