Arrow New here. Introduction and a couple questions. (pics)

Hey guys. I recently bought my first RX7. It's a 1988 GXL. I love the thing. When I bought the car, everything worked just fine except the radio. The antenna will go up and down when I turn the radio on and the tape player works, but for some reason, the radio doesn't work. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem or if anyone knows a fix for this issue. I checked the fuses, everything is fine there. Also, my FC didn't come with a users manual. I looked on ebay for one and found one for just about every year except 1988, anybody know where I can find one? Thanks for all the help!

For your radio, you probably have 3 options. 1) If your good with electronics take it apart and re-solder the board; these cars get a lot of cold solder joints and i wouldn't be surprised is that's the problem with the radio. 2) Find a used one at a junk year and swap it in. 3) Buy an aftermarket radio and replace the stock one. Honestly, unless you really want to keep everything bone stock i'd just buy a new deck and replace the stock one. New ones are much better than the stock ones were 20 years ago.

For the owners manual, keep your eye on ebay and amazon. Ones pop up there every once in a while.

It's only got 80k miles. I'm pretty good with electronics and I worked in pro-audio for a few years, I was just hoping there was some common problem I could ask about, lol. I'm probably just going to end up putting a whole new system in it.

If the radio is just not picking up stations, check to make sure that the antenna wire connection behind the radio hasn't come unplugged.

Nice car, good luck with it.

^that's probably a good choice, considering how many electrical gremlins these cars have.

Congrats on the purchase; it looks very nice!

Quoted for truth. If the radio just flat-out doesn't work, shell out the $80 for a new CD player or MP3 CD player. It's definitely worth it, unless you're gutting the car out, which you don't seem to want to do

Make sure the antenna is actually hooked up to the radio 1st. Then dig in or replace. Very nice car btw.
