Red face new guy with a couple questions

hows it going everyone? im new with rotories and jus had a few questions. i saw some talk about a throttle body modification and bac, can anyone give me a bit more info on this? also my transmission for some reason randomly sticks in reverse (89 model 5spd N/A)i think cuz of a problem with the forks or something i assume? other than that i only have an idle problem, unsteady at lower rpms but sometimes wants to idle up to around 1200-1500rpm. other than these few problems im ecstatic about my first rx7 and cant wait to see how hard it can be pushed. thx for your help guys

This removes the extra set of throttle plates. The RX-7 throttle body has 5 plates. One primary, two secondary and two tertiary. The primary and secondary plate are controlled mechanically, the thrid set via a vacuum actuator. The TB mod removes these plates. It is only relevant for a turbo engine which keeps those throttles closed at low throttle settings. The NA keeps them open all the time except during cold starts. So removing them on an NA is pointless. On a TII it will get you slightly better throttle response.

and bac, can anyone give me a bit more info on this?
The BAC (Bypass Air Control) valve is used by the ECU to regulat the engine's idle speed. Many people remove it for some odd reason. Do not remove it as without this valve the car cannot regulate it's idle. Any time the engine is under a slight load the idle will drop and it can stall in some cases.

Might just be sloppy bushings. Common problem. Search for "shifter bushings".

Sticking thermowax, and/or TPS problem. Search for "thermo wax", "cold start cam" and "tps adjustment". Could also be a vacuum leak, as the hoses get old and crack. All common problems.

Give us more details on the car like mileage, last FULL tuneup, did you change all the fluids or top them off, etc..

Do you have a basic set of tools, decent set of tools, or want a mechanic to do evertying for you.

Sounds like you need to start with the basic things like FULL tuneup, set the TPS (throttle position sensor), check vacuum readings on the ACV, check the BAC, check the exhaust/cats, etc....

a bushing problem would cause a problem with the shift forks? i know its prolly waaayyyy overdue for a tune up cuz it has 159k on the odo and thats top priority atm. once thats done, however, the cats have to go and i plan on focusing on brakes next, then a full motor swap...am i jumping ahead of myself yet? lol
