New guy

Hi all, I've been checkin out the FAQ's and archives for the last couple hours, I found what I was originally looking for, but decided against it.
Theres a couple n/a FC's around here that I can probably get for a decent price. If not, I'll just keep saving. At first I was thinking of swapping a TII engine, or maybe doing my own setup on the n/a motor. I've decided it'd be better to build the car first, get a rebuilt 13b, maybe have the tranny rebuilt. Build the car they way I want it, then work on the turbo. I'm more concerned about handling than speed anyway. There arent a whole lot of places to get on it around here, there are loads of backroads with clean pavement and no sign of life for miles.

So anyway, I've got a few questions;
"6-port," how does this differ from the ?-port engine?

Is there a better 5 speed I can throw in, maybe something with a lower gear?

In n/a trim, with port work, exhaust, etc., will it reach around 200hp and still be cabable of handling boost?

Who sells good rebuilds? Maybe something a little hotter than stock.

Please excuse my ignorance, I'm still learning this rotory thing. My car has pistons, and 16 ports, and real duals, a cam, torque, all kinds of stuff that I understand.

It's not even worth the swap to the 4.3, you can't even tell the difference when running the two cars side by side. Go with a S4 sport/GTU (if you go N/A), or just get a Turbo.

Sonic > me
you should probably listen to him
But! there is always the 4.3 option, i imagine it would be more noticable if ur swapping from the 3.9 rearend, which only comes with the auto cars but thats not the case, is it.

On non-turbo 84 and later 13B engines there are 3 intake ports per rotor. This would be simular to a dual cam 3 intake valves set up on a piston engine. Turbo motors use a 4 port design, which would be closer to a dual cam 2 large intake valves per cylinder.

Non turbo engines can utilize the Dynamic Intake effect better than forced induction engines, hench the difference.

The Turbo tranny would be the only real upgrade for a non-turbo engine, but the stock tranny is fine (with a nice heavy duty upgraded clutch) for up to around 200-250 Hp, while the stock turbo tranny is good up to 400-450 HP.

In n/a trim, with port work, exhaust, etc., will it reach around 200hp and still be cabable of handling boost?
nothing.

Don't waste your time thinking you are going to Turbo a non turbo engine down the road. Nothing (no aftermarket Turbo kits) are/is made to do it, and the performance advantage will not carry through.

IMO, If you are porting and modifing the intake and exhaust, the set up would be entirly different to set up for Turboing.

Kevin Landers, Rotary Resurrection. Even gives you a warrenty!

Awesome, thanks for the info.
About those FC's I looked at today, "she was the girl of my dreams from 100 feet away" best describes it.
There are two beat to hell & back 1st gens, and 6 or 7 FC's. The red one by the road says GTU on the passenger fender, its missing half the console, the hood is bent up at the front, the headlights dont line up, the bumper cover is cockeyed, no driver's signals (front), and the driver's side fender isnt even completely bolted on. Its at a body shop, they completely half-assed that (along with 20 other cars), and couldnt be bothered to take the 2 minutes and bolt the damn fender on. Then they have the nerve to ask $3500???
Needless to say, it was a steaming pile of crap. Who knows how bad the subframes are bent.

So, the search continues. Theres a 99% chance your right about me never throwing a turbo on an n/a rotory. So its probably better that I just keep driving the mirage and save up for a nice Turbo II. I dont mind pulling/installing engines, and I checked out the afformentioned rebuilds. That'd be a good setup, get a T2 in the fall when no one is buying them, send the engine down south over the winter while I paint the car up here.
Ohh well, I'll figure something out. My girlfriend might be getting a '92 Probe (the car, dont get any ideas :p ), and she says I can drive it, and mod it, and cool stuff like that, but I just have to pick her up from college starting in the fall (no freshman parking). Laugh if you want, but those Probes are pretty sweet little cars in my book.
