Hi,
i bought a 1986 "GT Limited" that I have been working over.
so far;
-respray in metallic Wild Violet,
-S5 turbo that is hi flowed with a t04 compressor wheel,
-500m x 300mm x 75mm FMIC,
-custom bodykit (there is nothing available here in Aust, so i had to get one made up) i'll post pix soon. the kit just consists of a new front bar, in the vein of the stock one, but much lower and blunter, with a large opening for my FMIC. Side skirts are modified from an aggressive 200SX kit, and rear corners custom made to level the rear with the side skirts front bar. Makes the car look low, wide, and angry. cost me $1700AU. was also considering a custom "touring car" style rear wing, but opted against it.
-custom made round "GTR" style tailights (haven't finished them yet)
-FD driver & passenger seats (stylish, i like them)
-totally rewired, lost 12kg in dead wires!
-all emissions crap removed, saved a motsa weight as well!
--
the interior is gutted right now, and is being redone.

it is a project still in progress, but i'm hoping for a mean & unique looking FC that can actually perform when all is said and done. the car weighed 1200kg before i started lightening it, so prolly weighs about 1180kg now.

i have a stock steel turbo bonnet still. How much lighter are the non-turbo aluminium bonnets does anyone know?
are carbon-fibre bonnets available for a reasonable price?

other mods:
twin 2.5" exhaust, no CATS or anything.
modified greddy airfilter from an FD
HKS BOV
S5 13B engine w/mild porting.
6kg Odyssey battery
manual boost controller
lowered KYB coilover suspension
17" Mazdaspeed Gold rims (5 spoke pattern)

was making about 200 or so KW at the wheels according to a GTech. will get it dynoed properly soon tho.

Sorry for my long, rambling first post!
i've spent all my money on this car, and barely even eat now!

Fenrir

btw, i saw a picture of a "Saleen" Race Car FC3s in another post. Anyone know how much that bodykit costs?! it looks AWESOME!

very nice car. In fact badass, just get a aluminum turbo hood, theyre pretty plentiful and in fact there arent that many steel ones. But i suppose a aluminum N/A would suit you best since you run with a FMIC. I dunno about aftermarket hoods yet CF ones. I'll leave that up to everyone else to answer.

and about the 86 turbo, i guess they made em and just didnt bring em to US. Like they had the 92 FCs but not in US, and had a N/A vert here, and only turbo vert in other places. Lotsa changes. Plus the names of them, they have GT-X and GT-R and other crap.

if you read the whole thing he says he has a series 5 engine and turbo so he might have converted. but they have turbo rx-7 first gens in japan so anything is posable.

I think there are the odd CF hood around but I'll cost alot, like over $1000us. just try and find a non turbo alum one.

and get some pics !!

how much does the alum NA bonnet weigh???

the build date is actually late 1985, even though it is the 2nd generation shape. all the papework says 1986 though. i think it is an import to australia that was released in japan only.
it had no power steering, no sunroof, no electric anything, just a simple base model in essence.
when we pulled the car apart, we found that the wiring for most (if not all) of the options available to the 2nd gen cars was in there (electric suspension etc) so we just de-wired it of all the cancerous copper crap!
The colour is Ford's "Wild Violet" that I had the paintshop guy add metallic aluminium flakes to, so it really gleams in the sunlight. it rocks!
The engine is actually a series4 block, but the previous owner had it rebuilt with (according to the receipts) series5 internals. translate that how you will.
basically, ANYTHING not necessary has been removed from the car, i want it as light weight as possible. the car understeers quite a bit, and i am not happy about that. i am told that there is some kind of automatic toe-in of the rear wheels (or some ****) could this be causing the understeer?
with the bonnet, yes it is the aluminium NA bonnet that i want BADLY! (assuming it weights much less than the steel turbo bonnet)
Can anyone tell me how much less the alum NA bonnet weighs compared to the turbo steel one? are teh alum NA bonnets common in the states? how much do they go for over there?

Hoping for 250rwKW at about 1150kg. i'll push the turbo to 16psi or 17psi prolly....
i have SOME pix, i'll figure out how to post them and put them up in an hour or so.

btw, can ANYONE tell me how much the Saleen bodykit costs? i'll rob a bank to buy one! it pushes my buttons, that's for sure!!!
