New exhaust help!!!

I'm looking for a new exhaust system to replace what i have in my 87GXL. This is what i want: stock exhaust manifold, bonez superflo cat,
stock y pipe or single pipe to universal dual/single 4.5 in tip muffler(s).
The thing i'm worried about is how the diameter piping will fit together.
I'm having trouble trying to find a y-pipe that is also 2.5" in diameter.
Can i just have a muffler shop do the job for me and somehow still use the stock y pipe? Because the mufflers i'm using have 2.5" diameter piping. Also, does anyone know where i can get a high flo cat cheaper then the bonez hiflo?

I'll tell ya what you SHOULD do... It's cheaper and it'll make you faster. Forget a high flow cat, those things are WAY too expensive. And if you face the facts, you have a slim chance of passing emissions. I'd get a Race Pipe. I have one, and it takes out the pre-cats and the main cat. It also has a presilencer, and that's it. They were claiming a 18hp gain, I havn't dyno'd or anything, but it gave a hulluva power boost. Cat-Back systems come with the Y pipe you need, all you have to do is find the tip that you want in the right size. I'd recommend the Apexi N1 Dual exhaust, that is, if you have $900 for your cat backs. But the race pipe costs $150, and is a breeze to install.. that's my two cents...

Thumbs up

I agree.. Get the Race pipe first.. i got one in my 88, felt a power gain after the instalation not sure how much HP but you feel it! pretty cheap investment too. i got mine off RX7.com for 160$. Alot cheaper than a Cat-Back system!

I don't have money for the apex, hks or greddy style mufflers.
I was looking at something along the lines of dual universal 4.5" tip mufflers to bolt to the race pipe. Can i use the stock y-pipe to blot to te universal mufflers? The mufflers are located at www nopi.com.

Wait, how loud is the race pipe and how long does it last? Plus with the precilencer and all how loud would it sound with the Apex N1 single. And plus how do you pass emissions with it? And another thing will the race pipe fit directly to the N1 or is modification needed. Moreover, my car isn't going to be on a track so would this be good for a street kinda racer like me? Woaho, lot of questions and probably no answers, oh well. This is interesting and I want to know some of this **** since I plan to replace from my manifold back next spring.

The race pipe that i bought off rotary performance is a direct bolt in from the stock manifold to any cat-back that they sell.. (N1 included). YOU WILL NOT PASS EMISSIONS! I had someone that hooked me up with a sticker.

Alright since I don't think we have emissions testing how loud is it? Does the presilencer give it any weight. I am wondering because I really do like the loud deep effect and I think this is the way I am going to get it. Anyway, I am just inquiring since again I don't think we have emission testing unles we get pulled over for being to loud, so now it probably is a noise factor.
