Thumbs up new exhaust

well I finally got my full 3" RB exhaust on my TII and it kicks ***! Anyone thinking of getting it will not be disappointed

with that said, I have a few questions...

I've been taking it easy, but I accidentally hit fuel cut which scared the hell outta me. I want to know if I messed up anything? I was under the impression that fuel cut can destroy your car WHEN it happens, but if it happened to me but my car is still running like it was before the cut, do I have anything to worry about? I did notice some light black smoke the next time I started my car..

Also, every time I come to a stop this smell enters the car.. it only happens with the windows rolled down so nothing's leaking into the cabin, but is it normal for the exhaust fumes to recirculate from the tail pipes back to the front of the car even when I just start the car and sit for a sec? is this the smell of unconverted rotary gas or just a "new exhaust" smell?

and one more interesting thing.. when I got it on, I noticed that the line from my O2 sensor was severed.. it's fixed now, but I don't know how long it was like that.. what could have this affected?

I can smell the gas in cabin, but that is because I have no emissions and a full exhaust. That is pretty normal. As for fuel cut, you should be ok, but it is VERY bad to hit fuel cut. Get a RB FCD NOW!!!!!!! Best mod you can do for under $200. The severed O2 sensor line is ok, you just ran a little rich for a few minutes...No problem.

I do have a RB FCD, but I'm afraid to put it on because I think it fried my ecu the first time I installed it... not sure tho..

and speaking of running rich, with this new exhaust I thought I'd be seeing some flames.. but none yet

Ouch. Good luck with that FCD, you need one with a full exhaust. Got a boost controller? With that full exhaust, you ST VERY LEAST need a good boost gauge to watch for boost creep. You should see flames. Revv the engine up to like 7500 RPM, then let off. As it hits 6000 RPM, gun it. You should hear a nice "POP" and a rolling flame.

yea, I've got a good boost gauge, I'm keeping a close watch on it when I'm testing. Although ~8.6 stuck up on me real quick when I hit fuel cut..

and my only attempt to shoot flames was when i was half throttling it up to about 5-6k then let off and floored it.. but didn't see or hear anything.. this is the (newer)full 3" racing beat exhaust with the one piece downpipe(w/ presilencer i think), y-pipe, cat-back. Is anyone else out there with this system shooting flames?

as for putting this system on an N/A... i doubt it.. the downpipe connects to the turbo manifold which I assume is different than whatever the N/A has.. I'm not positive, but RB doesn't mention anything about putting it on one..

I know you can use the cat-back, but not the whole thing.

yea I did, but right before that I was cleaning up some wiring and something came loose, so I reconnected it... then.. disconnected the battery and installed the fcd.. then the car wouldn't start.

As petty as it was I wanted to blame it on the loose wire, but when I first tried to start the car with the fcd, my stock boost gauge's needle shot strait up which startled me and I thought maybe the fcd was messed up? I then disconnected it.. Can you assure me that it wasn't the fcd?

So, it's save to add the FCD to our TII? I am planning on adding on because I am upgrading to a S5 turbo and the boost will be higher than the S4.

Thanks,

Doug

I guess it depends on what you mean by safe.. as far as I know it's safe to have so you don't hit fuel cut, but if you have one and are boosting around 12 psi or so than it's not safe because it'll cause you to lean out.. in your case if you're just putting on the new turbo with the rest of your car stock than it would be safe, you might not even need it, but if you get an intake or something you might.. just remember if you are gonna be boosting much above the stock ecu's limit(8.6 in our case) then you need to consider the proper fuel mods, i.e. better fuel pump, bigger secondary injectors, and an s-afc..

on a side note, I fixed my boost problem, but I'm gonna start a new thread.

How can you tell the difference between fuel cut and detonation, I have an open exhaust including intake( except for main cat), I seem to get some hesitation at about 6000 RPM but I don't hear any popping. Not sure if my FCD is working or if it's detonation.

TheAnologKidd-

What I mean by safe is the problem you experienced that fried your ECU. That's what I am worry about and don't want to get my ECU fried.

ok silver, I see what you're saying, unfortunately I can't answer that because I'm still unsure about what happened.. however I've built up the nerve to try and put it on again, so I'll let you know what happens..

I've asked this question before and some people think the only things that can ruin an ecu are a wreck, water getting to it or messing with the stock wiring with the battery connected.. other think that a faulty fcd can.. so I'm not sure what help I can be but if mine works, that should give you a little more hope

i wouldnt boost over 8psi with a stock fuel system. Last thing u want is having to buy a new engine just because u wanted to go fast for a second.
