New Exhaust
im kinda new to rx7s... i just got my FC 6 months ago and now im gettin some parts for it. I got a racing beat header and an apexi intake. Ive been lookin at cat back exhausts, apexi got the N1 and the GT spec exhaust. what is the difference between the two and which one might make more power?

I've had trouble finding dyno results for upgrades in these forums. What's worse is that manufacturers might lie or exaggerate. But I can say the place to start is the catalytic converter. Then the mufflers, then the intake, then if you really need to squeeze out that last tiny bit of power, a header. Do a search on "cai" or "cold air intake", too.

I'm running Racing Beat Header to Bonez hi-flow cat to Apexi N1 catback. It's a little loud, but not like I expected. I thought it was going to sound like a chainsaw but it's pretty deep. I like the sound of it.

Bought it used from a guy who used it just to pass smog. $180 shipped.
You can buy it for $250 new from rx7.com http://www.rx7.com/store/rx7/fcexhaust.html

Oh.... you bought a Road Race header? Umm, i've never seen cats on a road race header since it is made for the true duel setup. People usually buy this piece to fit in between the road race header and catback http://www.racingbeat.com/resultset....rtNumber=16448
The thing about the road race header is it's two individual pipes all the way back, one for each rotor. The header on rx7.com is a collected header, two pipes into one.

If I were you I would sell the road race header and get the RB collected header. Buy a Bonez hi-flow cat and a catback of your choice. It would all bolt up without any custom welding.

I say go for the Apexi GT cat-back. I have heard it in person and I love the way they sound, nice and deep. Especially with the high flow cat, I think It will be a great match.
Also, if you say you can get Apexi brand for cheap, go with the GT.
Check this site out. I say the RB True Duels sound ridiculous, but the GT sounds much deeper than the N1. Though the N1 is running with a street port, still the GT sounds deeper, less rasp.

^ I have an Apexi N1 with RB header and hi-flow cat and it sounds nothing like the one in that sound clip. His exhaust diffusers are out and he doesn't have a cat to muffle the sound so of course it's going to sound raspier than the GT spec sound clip.
When I bought my N1 I was expecting it to sound like that, but listen to the GT spec exhaust clip. Now imagine that but deeper and a bit louder. That's what my N1 sounds like. But I have no doubt the GT spec is a better build quality and probably does sound better, I want to hear what it sounds like with my setup.

That setup sounds good FCHeman. You should be able to pass the sniffer test and it won't be insanely loud with the cat to muffle it up a bit.
KcKhan, I paid $250 for the RB header shipped, $180 for the cat, and $250 for the N1 catback. Then about $30 for heat wrap to wrap my header, gotta keep the engine bay temps down
So in the end about $700. Damn, thanks for making me add up all the bills JK.
